Owls Look For Fourth AMC Victory Against Williams Baptist

Parra leads the Owls with five assists and in total shots having 47.
FULTON, Mo.— The William Woods men's soccer team will look to get its fourth American Midwest Conference victory on Saturday, as the team plays hosts to Williams Baptist College. Kick-off will start at 1:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Owls (6-6; 3-2 AMC) are coming off a tough 2-1 double overtime loss on the road against 22nd ranked Columbia College. Marcelo Carreiro put the team on the board first in the game, scoring his seventh goal on the season to make it 1-0 Owls at the 17:49 mark.

Columbia College responded 9:00 minutes later, as Antonio Ayres scored his fourth goal on the year, tying the game up at 1-1 and that score remained the same until halftime. The Cougars totaled seven shots, while holding the Owls to a season low two shots.

In the second half, the Owls offense dominated having a shot advantage of 13-5, but none of the shots were able to find the back of the net to break the tie, so it was off to overtime.

After a scoreless first OT, both teams' looked to the final 10:00 minute overtime for an important AMC victory. Just .12 seconds into the second OT, Rafael Ramos scored the game winner for the Cougars from 35 yards out, handing the Owls its second overtime loss in six days. The team previously lost 2-1 against 17th ranked Hannibal-LaGrange in the first overtime.

Williams Baptist (5-5; 2-3 AMC), picked up a forfeit victory over Ecclesia on Thursday. This will be the first game for the Eagles since October 8th, when the team fell to Lindenwood-Belleville 6-1. Their last victory came against Lyon College on October 1st, winning 4-1.

The Scots took a 1-0 lead at the 8:47 mark, but the Eagles responded with four unanswered goals, with Victor Vouga leading the way with two goals for the team. Matheus Allonso and Lucas Braga also chipped in goals for WBC.

Head-To-Head
The Owls are a perfect 14-0 against Williams Baptist, outscoring the Eagles 55-7 over those 14 games. Last year, William Woods defeated WBC 1-0, with Carreiro scoring the game winner for the Owls at the 37:58 mark.

School Records Could Be Broken
From 2001-04, John Hayes totaled 104 career points as an Owl and that record has been untouchable since then. However, seniors Carreiro and Joao Paulo Parra are coming close to breaking the school's all-time points record. Carreiro started the year with 79 points, thus far he has totaled 18 points this year, adding up to 97 and is just seven points off tying the record.

Parra, meanwhile, started the 2013 season with 77 points and he has added up 15 on the year, for a total of 92. The duo is also ranked in career goals, assists, season high in points, goals and assists.

Also, if the Owls defeat Williams Baptist on Saturday, the team will have tied the school record for most American Midwest Conference victories (4) and still have four conference games to go to set the all-time record.

Favorable Travel Schedule to Close Out Season
After the Williams Baptist game on Saturday, the Owls never leave the state of Missouri, as they have two more home games against Freed-Hardeman and Lyon College. The team then travels to Park University and Missouri Baptist before closing out against Southwest Baptist University in a non-conference game.

Senior Day Against Lyon College
On October 19th at 1:00 p.m. the Owls host Lyon College and prior to the game the team will be honoring the departing seniors that include Robertt Butvin, Kyle Matthews, Adam Roberts, Henrique Bertolino Pinto, Parra, Carreiro, Ryan Miller, Kyle Konigsberg and Edvin Osmar Cabrera.

Players To Look Out For- William Woods
Sebastian Burich, Carreiro and Parra lead the Owls offense totaling 16 of the teams' 25 goals on the year. Jesse Jordan and Alex Severino have each added two, while Kyle Konigsberg, Kyle Matthews, Paulo Conelian and Jacob Hawes have totaled one goal apiece.

With his seventh goal against Columbia, Carreiro has now moved up to fifth place in the AMC in goals and points (18). Parra stands in fifth place as well in assists (5), trailing the overall leader by two.

In net, both Buttvin and Evan Melone have been stellar combining for 42 saves, allowing just 20 goals in 12 games, having a save percentage of .677 and a goals against average of 1.67.

Players To Look Out For- Williams Baptist  
The Eagles are led on offense by Allonso, who has totaled four goals, two assists and 10 points on the season. Victor Vouga and Lucas Braga will be other players on WBC to keep a look out for, as they have combined for six goals, two assists and 14 points on the year.

In net, Javier Piedra has totaled 644:26 minutes in net, making 41 saves, allowing 13 goal and earning himself a goals against average of 1.82.
