Men's Soccer Host Lyon College On Senior Day

Miller will be one of the seven seniors honored on Saturday.
FULTON, Mo.— The William Woods men's soccer team will be looking for its third straight victory and move to 6-2 in American Midwest Conference play, as the Owls play host to Lyon College. Kick-off will start at 1:00 p.m.

Prior to the game, the team will be honoring its seven departing seniors that include Robertt Butvin, Kyle Matthews, Adam Roberts, Joao Paulo Parra, Marcelo Carreiro, Ryan Miller and Kyle Konigsberg.

Last Time Out
The Owls (8-6; 5-2 AMC) are coming off a 3-1 victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday night. WWU outshot the Lions 23-7 in the game and got on the scoreboard in the 5th minute, as Carreiro scored his team leading eighth goal on the season, to make it 1-0 Owls.

The offense continued to control the pace of the game and they were able to add to their lead in the 32nd minute, as Kyle Konigsberg scored what turned out to be the game winner from 25 yards out, to make it 2-0 Owls.
FHU, however, responded at the 36:50 mark, as Nassar Sempa got inside the 18 yard box and was able to flick his shot over the head of Owls goalie Evan Melone and into the back of the net to make it a 2-1 game heading into the half.

In the second 45:00 minutes, the Owls continued to play well on offense, and in the 68th minute, Bryan Powers put the game away with his first goal on the season to make it a 3-1 final. Melone picked up his fifth victory on the season, and with its fifth conference victory, the 2013 Owls team set the school record for most conference wins.

Lyon College (4-6-4; 2-3-2 AMC) has not been able to gain a win since they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 2-1 on September 28th. Since then, the Scots have lost to Williams Baptist (4-1), Park University (2-1) and tied Mid-Continent (0-0) and Columbia College (2-2).

Honoring the 2013 Senior Class
These seven seniors have all been major factors on and off the field in their careers as Owls, especially this season as they have combined for 16 goals, 12 assists and three game winning goals.

Robertt Butvin
The Mantua, Ohio native joined the men's soccer team after playing two seasons with the baseball team. Butvin has played in 565:46 minutes this season, earning a goals against average of 1.91 and a record of 3-4 over seven games played.

Marcelo Carreiro
Carreiro has been with the Owls the past four seasons and has been an asset for the team ever since he arrived. The senior has complied 38 goals in his career, 23 assists, 99 points, 123 shots on goal and 11 game winning goals.

The 38 goals places him second all-time in school history, while ranking first in assists and second in total points. Other accolades for him include being named AMC Freshman of the Year and All-AMC honorable mention team  in 2010, and in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, he earned All-AMC first-team honors.

The Curitiba, Brazil, native has been a success in the classroom as well, earning Academic All-AMC and Capital One Academic All-District/America honors last season.

Kyle Konigsberg
The Simi Valley, Calif., native has appeared in 65 games over his career as an Owl, compiling six goals, eight assists and 20 points. Konigsberg has scored two goals this season and is one off matching his career high (3), which he scored in 2011. He has also been named to the Academic All-AMC team the past two seasons.

Kyle Matthews
Matthews has played in 33 games with the Owls on defense, totaling 14 shots over his career. The Simi Valley, Calif., native is a two-time Academic All-AMC winner and on September 21st against Mid-Continent this season, Matthews scored his first career goal as an Owl, leading the team to a 3-1 victory.

Ryan Miller
The Waterloo, Ill., native has played in 67 games over his career on defense for William Woods, and is one of the captains for the team this season.

Miller has scored one goal and assist as an Owl, which came during his freshman season against Ottawa University and MacMurray College. The defenseman was also named to the Academic All-AMC team in 2011.  

Joao Paulo Parra
Parra has had a stellar career as an Owl over 59 games, as the Sao Paulo, Brazil native has totaled 37 goals, 18 assists, 92 points, 264 shots and six game winning goals. He currently ranks third in school history in points, goals and second in assists. He also holds single season records, as during the 2011 season, Parra had 17 goals and 38 points.

Thus far this year, Parra has continued to be a threat on the field, having five goals, five assists, for 15 points and has totaled 48 shots.

Adam Roberts
Roberts came to William Woods after transferring from Southwestern Illinois College. Since then, the Granite City, Ill., native has played in 29 games for the Owls, totaling one goal which came last season against Southwest Baptist and his assist came this year in a 3-1 victory over Freed-Hardman University.

Players To Look Out For- Lyon College
The Scots have totaled 24 goals on the season, led by Gianfranco Panto, who through 11 games played, has eight goals, two assists for 18 points. Stuart Bramley and Eleazara Palma have each added four, while Jack Hayes and Abdullah Adam have contributed three goals this season. Hayes also leads the team in assists with five and is second on the Scots with 33 shots.

In net, Rob Brown has compiled 1182:37 minutes on the year, earning a goals against average of 1.67, making 58 saves for a save percentage of .725 on the year.
