Men's Soccer 2013 Season Comes To A Close Against Park University

Parra netted his eighth goal on the season against the Pirates.
Box Score FULTON, Mo.— The William Woods men's soccer team 2013 season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon, as the Owls fell to Park University 4-1 in the American Midwest Conference Semifinals.

The No. 4 seeded Owls (11-9; 6-4 AMC), knew they had tough test ahead of them against a Pirate team that beat them 2-1 in double overtime in their previous outing and outshot them 26-9.

In the first half, WWU had a scoring chance just 4:00 minutes into the game, but Jordan Bay's shot went high. For the next 18:00 minutes, the Pirates outshot the Owls 5-1, but the defense and goaltender Robertt Butvin kept the game scoreless.

Then, at the 28:09 mark, Lucas Sousa received a pass from Kiel Williams inside the 18 yard box and was able to tip the ball under a diving Butvin and into the back of the net, giving the Pirates a 1-0 advantage. The Owls had one final scoring chance before the half concluded, but Joao Paulo Parra's shot was saved by Ryan Miller and heading into the halftime the Owls trailed by one.

That 1-0 score remained the same midway through the second half until, Kiel Williams scored what turned out to be the game winner for Park, extending the lead to 2-0.

Carlos Trombini Filho pushed the score to 3-0 in the 80th minute and just 4:00 minutes later, Mario Erpel made it 4-0, as he tapped in his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Williams, his second of the day.

Even though down 4-0, the Owls battled until the final horn sounded, and with .23 seconds left, Parra buried his eighth goal on the year from 25 yards out, making it a final 4-1.

The Pirates outshot the Owls 23-8 in the game, with Filho and Williams leading the way, as the duo combined for nine shots, two goals and four assists. George Kennedy added two assists as well, while Gabriel Alves and Ignacio Flores Garay contributed one.

Offensively, the Owls were led by Parra totaling three shots and having one goal. On his goal, Luca Stroeter and Nermin Hajrizi had the assists. In net, Butvin made a career high eight saves.

The team closes out the 2013 season with 11 wins for the fourth time in the past five years and the six AMC wins are the most in men's soccer history.
