WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- Priscila Santos scored a game-high 21 points to help the William Woods University women's basketball team score a 61-56 win over Williams Baptist College.
Santos scored 12 of her 21 points in the second half to help William Woods (20-4, 11-3 AMC) break a 35-all halftime tie. The junior guard has now scored at least 20 points in her last five contests.
The Owls shot 43.3 percent (23-of-53) to help overcome a night where they committed 20 turnovers and shot exactly 50 percent (9-of-18) from the free throw line. WWU was able to hold Williams Baptist (14-12, 7-7 AMC) to just 35.4 percent from the field and forced the Lady Eagles into 18 turnovers.
With the game tied at 42-all the Owls would go on a 10-2 run to take a commanding 52-44 lead with 5:14 remaining in the game. A Cheyenne Childers three-point basket cut the Williams Baptist deficit to only four points with 1:16 left on the clock.
Holding true to form, the Owls defense clamped down and held the Lady Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the game as they took home the 61-56 victory.
Stephanie Copelin enjoyed a successful night as she was the only other Owl to join Santos in double-digits, scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Santos led the Owls in rebounding with seven and Copelin grabbed six, but William Woods lost the battle of the board 40-38.
With this win WWU collects its fifth consecutive 20-win season under head coach
Dan Chapla. The victory also gives the Owls their ninth straight win over Williams Baptist.
WWU will returns to Anderson Arena on Thursday night as they host Park University. Tip-off for this AMC contest will be at 5:30 p.m.
