No. 22 Owls Drop Season Finale To Columbia College 76-65

Santos was one-of-two Owls to record a double-double on the day.

FULTON, Mo. – The no. 22-ranked William Woods University basketball teams had two players reach a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Owls gave up 20 second chance points before falling to no. 15 Columbia College 76-65 on Senior Day.

Priscila Santos extended her 20-point scoring streak to nine games as she led William Woods (23-5, 14-4 AMC) with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Katie Scherder also collected a double-double with 13 points and 10 caroms.

William Woods was outrebounded 54-46 on the day and gave up 19 offensive boards that enabled Columbia College (24-6, 17-1 AMC) to score 20 second chance points on the day.

The Owls found themselves down 18-9 early in the first half, as Columbia College hit four three-point shots in the first eight minutes.

Julia Wells brought the Owls back to within six with a three-pointer, but Heather English responded with a trifecta off a friendly bounce.

 A pair of three-pointers by Wells and Olivia Storjohann brought the Owls deficit to just three points at 27-24 with 5:36 remaining in the half.

English pushed the Cougar lead back to eight at 34-26 with her fifth three-point basket of the half. The Cougars maintained its lead for the remainder of the half as they trailed 36-29 going into the locker room.

Destani Stensrud brought the Owls to within two points at 36-34 with a three-point basket at the 17:43 mark, but Tierney Siefert pushed the Cougar lead back to five with a three pointer of her own on the very next possession.

Over the next two minutes Columbia was able to build its lead to nine, as they led 46-37.

Three Owls turnovers in three consecutive possessions helped the Cougars to a 15 point lead at the 9:00 minute mark as they held the 56-42 advantage.

Stensrud's third trifecta of the afternoon brought William Woods within 11 points at 59-48 with 7:34 left in the game.

Williams Woods would go on an 8-0 run capped off by a Katie Scherder three-pointer to bring the Owls within single-digits at 67-58. Columbia responded with quick 6-0 run of its own to retake the double-figure led at 71-58.

The Owls will return to action next Wednesday as they host Harris-Stowe in the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
