FULTON, Mo.- The William Woods men's soccer team will be searching for its third straight victory on Sunday, as the team plays host to Lindenwood University-Belleville. Kick-off is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Owls are coming off a 4-1 victory on Friday night over undefeated Webster University. The team got the scoring started at the 9:22 mark, when
Jesse Jordan scored his first goal on the season on an assist from
Marcelo Carreiro, putting the Owls up 1-0.
Just over 7:00 minutes later, Carreiro scored his second goal on the season, beating the Webster goalie from the top of the 18 yard box, extending the teams' lead to 2-0. The Gorloks responded 5:00 minutes later, with Patrick McCaffrey tipping the ball past the goal line, cutting the Owls lead down to one goal.
Before the half ended, however,
Sebastian Burich scored at the 40:22 mark, putting the team back up by two goals at the half. In the second half, the Owls controlled the game on offense putting more pressure on the Gorlok defense and goalie Brian Woodward. Carreiro added his second goal of the game and third on the season with .40 seconds left in the game, leading the Owls to a 4-1 win.
Lindenwood University-Belleville (3-1-2) is on a three game winning streak, defeating Culver-Stockton, Principia College and Judson University by a combined score of 6-2. On Friday night, the Lynx beat Judson University 3-1, getting goals from Cesar Acosta, Leonardo Ferri, and Jesus Ahumada. Julio Zaldiver picked up the win in goal for the Lynx, making seven saves.
Head-To-Head
This will be the third meeting between the two schools, with the Owls winning the previous two games by a combined score of 5-1. Last year, the Owls won 3-1 with
Luca Stroeter,
Sebastian Burich and
Danilo Carnelos scoring one goal apiece.
Offense Catching Fire
During its two game winning streak, the Owls have scored eight goals, while holding Culver-Stockton and Webster to two. The team has outshot those opponents 42-16, including a first half advantage of 23-9.
Carreiro is catching fire on offense, totaling three goals, one assist and seven points in two games while adding seven shots. Burich has played very well for the Owls during the winning streak, leading the team in shots (8) and is second on the team in goals (2), assists (2) and points (6). Senior
Joao Paulo Parra continues to be another threat at forward for the Owls, having one goal, three assists and five shots in two games.

The Lynx and the Owls will be squaring off more in the years to come, as Lindenwood-Belleville will be joining the American Midwest Conference next season along with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

th overall in the NAIA.
With his two goal night, Carreiro moves up to seventh in the AMC in points (7) and fifth in goals (3). Burich is currently ranked ninth in the conference in points (6), ninth in goals (2) and fifth in assists (2). Parra is another Owl in the top 15 in points, coming in at 13
th (5), while being second in assists (3) and 21

The entire offense is coming together and becoming a headache for opposing defenses and goaltenders. Parra, Carreiro and Burich lead the team up top combining for 39 shots, six goals, six assists and 18 points in just four games. Freshman

Paulo Conelian each have one goal on the season and will be other players to look out for having an impact against Lindenwood-Belleville.
On defense, the Owls led by captain
Ryan Miller have only allowed opposing teams' to total 28 shots in four games. The defense kept in check a Webster University team that totaled 75 shots in six games and scored 12 goals.
In goal,
Robertt Butvin and
Evan Melone have a combined save percentage of 0.632 and a goals against average of 1.75. Buttvin picked up his first win against Webster, while Melone got his first start and victory against Culver-Stockton.
Players To Look Out For- Lindenwood-Belleville
The Lynx are led by Cesar Acosta with two goals and four points in four games this season. Johann Sundburg has one goal on the season, but is second on the team in shots totaling 14. Freshman Jose Mora has scored one goal in five games and is a threat on offense totaling 16 shots, with six landing on goal.
Like the Owls, the Lynx have a shot advantage of 90-63 so far this season and in the first half, they have totaled 41 shots, while holding their opponents to 27.
