Owls Look For Third Straight Win On Saturday Against Stephens College

Scherder leads the team in rebounding with her 7.6 caroms per game.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's basketball team will look to move above the .500 mark in conference play for the first time this season, as they travel to Stephens College for a Saturday afternoon contest. Tip-off from Columbia, Mo., is set for 2 p.m.

In their last time out, the Owls (11-5; 4-4 AMC) picked up an 80-70 win at Mid-Continent University. WWU had to survive a late rally from the Lady Cougars, as they saw their 30-point second half lead dwindled to just 10 points before the final buzzer sounded.

William Woods continued its impressive offense play of late, as they hit the 80-point plateau for the third straight game on Thursday. It marks the first time under Head Coach Dan Chapla that the Owls have accomplished such a feat, and it is the first time since the start of the 2005-06 season that WWU has scored at least 80 points in three consecutive games.

The recent offensive output continues this year's high-scoring trend. Through 16 games, William Woods is average 73.4 points per contest, its highest points per game average under Coach Chapla. The Owls have three players, led by Andraquay Quinnine's 12.6 points per game, who are averaging double-digit.

Quinnine, who has it an AMC-leading 39 three-pointers, hit four trifectas in Thursday's victory as recorded double-digits for the first time in three games.

Katie Scherder, who is averaging 10.6 points through 16 games, registered her team-best third double-double of the season at Mid-Continent by scoring a team-best 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Bowling Green, Mo., native leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 caroms per contest.

Stephens College (0-12; 0-6 AMC) will be looking for its first win of the season on Saturday, as well as looking to snap a 16-game losing streak that dates back to February of last year.

The Stars have had trouble scoring the ball this year, as they are averaging just 45.9 points per contest, the lowest points per game average in the AMC. SC has been held under 45 points 16 times this season, including a season-low 19-point performance against Missouri Valley back on Nov. 8.

Despite the struggling offense, Seleena Neal is third in the conference in scoring with her 17.9 points per game average. The sophomore guard has registered double-digits in 10 games this year, and has scored over 20 in seven of those contest.

Defensively, Stephens College is giving up the third-most points per game in the conference by allowing the opposition to score an average 80.9 points per contest.

William Woods is 19-6 against Stephens College in the all-time series.
