PARKVILLE, Mo. -- The No. 25-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team seeks its fourth consecutive win on Saturday afternoon, as they take to the road for the first American Midwest Conference road game of the year at Park University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
The Owls (8-2; 1-1 AMC) extended its winning streak to three games on Thursday night by collecting an 81-59 victory against Harris-Stowe State at Anderson Arena. Four WWU starters collected double-figures,
Blake French and
Andraquay Quinnine each tallied 15 points in the win to lead William Woods.
Katie Scherder and
Stephanie Copelin rounded out the quartet with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Quinnine, who leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game, has scored double-digits in each of her last five contest. Despite a rough night shooting from behind the arc on Thursday, 1-of-8, the San Francisco native still leads the AMC in three-point percentage at an even 40 percent, as she has hit a league-best 24 trifectas on 60 attempts.
Point guard
Destani Stensrud continued her impressive play of late on Thursday night by handing out a game-high seven assists. The Exeter, Mo., native has now handed out 16 assists in her last two games, after handing out a season-high nine assists in the final game of the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic on Sunday against the University of Saint Mary.
Limiting team's offensively has been key to William Woods success this year, and it reflects in the stat sheet has they are the top defensive rebounding team in the conference, grabbing 35.3 defensive caroms per game.
Another component to WWU's success this year is converting at the free throw line. Entering Saturday's game, William Woods holds the second-best in the NAIA by hitting 78.9 percent of their attempts. In Thursday's victory the Owls hit 8-of-10 from the line. Â
Park University (2-6; 0-2 AMC) looks to snap a three-game losing streak after dropping an 84-78 decision at home to No. 21 Columbia College.
The Pirates are led by Channell Mackey's 14.1 points per game. The Washington D.C., native had a career game her last time out, as she scored 31 points in Thursday's loss to Columbia College. Mackey hit an impressive 11-of-20 from the field, and converted on all eight of her free throw attempts.
Mackey is the lone Pirate in double-digits, as they average 62.4 points per game on 36.9 percent from the floor. Conversely, the Park defense is giving up 68.6 points per game and allows teams to shoot exactly 41 percent from the field.
There are a pair of players for Park that leads the conference in a statistical category, as Mackey has collected a league-high 32 steals, and Lauren Maclin has blocked the most shots per game with 1.3 swats per contest.
William Woods swept the season series, 2-0, against Park University last season, and are 9-0 against the Pirates under Head Coach
