WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- The No. 25-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team looks to get back on track after suffering a loss on Saturday, as they continue its three-game American Midwest Conference road trip on Tuesday night with a contest against Williams Baptist College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Owls (8-3; 1-2 AMC) dropped their first game of the road trip with a 65-58 decision at Park University. It was the first time that William Woods had lost in its previous three games, as they suffered its first lost to Park University since the 2000-01 season.
Senior guard
Katie Scherder collected her second double-double of the year in the loss, as the Bowling Green, Mo., native had a 12-point, 13-rebound performance. Scherder goes into Tuesday's contest leading the Owls in rebounds, as she pulls down 7.36 caroms per game, which is good for the seventh-highest total in the AMC.
First-year player,
Andraquay Quinnine, leads WWU in scoring, as the Xavier University of Louisiana transfer is averaging 13.09 point per contest. Quinnine comes into Tuesday's game on a hot streak by recording double-digits in her last six contests, which includes a 12-point effort against Park University her last time out.
Quinnine leads a quartet of double-digit scorers for the No. 25-ranked team in the NAIA, as
Katie Scherder (10.8 ppg),
Stephanie Copelin (10.6 ppg), and
Blake French (10.5 ppg) help the team score an average of 72.5 points per contest on 41.6 percent shooting from the floor.
Just like Quinnine, French has scored double-figures in her last six games, and scored a team-high 13 points against Park University on Saturday.
Defensively, the Owls are giving up 62.5 points per game, a mark which is the fourth-best in conference play. They are also holding teams to a 38.1 shooting percent, which is tied with Columbia College for the fifth-best mark in the AMC.
Tuesday will be no easy task for William Woods, as they face one of the premiere defenses in the country. Williams Baptist College (6-3; 2-1 AMC) is holding teams to just 30.7 percent from the floor, a mark which is the lowest in the NAIA. The Owls are coming off a season-low 58 points, and will face a team that is second in the AMC in scoring defense, as the Lady Eagles allow 58.5 points per contest.
2012-13 First-Team All-AMC selection Cheyenne Childers leads the Lady Eagles, as she is the lone double-digit scorer for WBC with her 12.6 points per game average. The 5-11 senior also leads the team in rebounding, as she is averaging 8.4 boards per contest.
Childers has scored double-figures in every game except for two, and has collected three double-doubles on the year. The most recent double-double came in her last game against Harris-Stowe State, as she turned in an 18-point, 11-rebound performance.
William Woods swept the season series against these two schools last year, and are 10-1 against Williams Baptist College under Head Coach
