HANNIBAL, Mo.— The William Woods University men's soccer team will look for a big American Midwest Conference (AMC) road win on Thursday afternoon, as the Owls pay a visit to Hannibal-LaGrange University. Kick-off is set to start at 1 p.m.
The Owls (8-1-2; 3-1-1 AMC), are coming off a 0-0 tie against (RV) Columbia College on October 8
th at Firley Field. The Cougars outshot the Owls 18-15 in the outing, while WWU was led by
Jacob Hawes totaling a game-high four shots.
Sebastian Burich contributed three, while
Alex Severino,
Jesse Jordan and
Paulo Conelian added two shots a piece. In net, freshman
Conor Cable set a new season and career-high in saves against CC, as the Spalding, England, native, made 10 saves in the game.
It has been nearly a month since the Owls lost a game, as its last and only defeat on the year came against Lyon College, as WWU fell 2-1 in the final seconds.
Since then, in the last four games (3-0-1), however, the Owls have outscored its opponents 6-1 and hold a shot advantage of 70-47.
Six different Owls have found the back of the net the last four outings, as Severino,
Alan Matthew, Hawes,
Lendell Louis-Jacques,
Julian Wells and
Jesse Bowers have each tallied one goal. In net, Cable has played in 290:00 minutes, allowing just one goal and making 17 saves, for a save percentage of .944.
Ivan Monterrubio also picked up a shutout win against Missouri Baptist, as he made one save in a 1-0 double overtime victory.
On the season, the team has scored 26 goals, while the defense and Cable have limited its opponents to a mere five. Hawes and Severino are tied for the team lead with five goals each, while
Anthony Moscatello has totaled four goals and Matthew has scored three.
Conelian leads the team with eight assists, which ranks the senior 11
th overall in the NAIA, while fellow senior
Luca Stroeter has added four assists and four other Owls have contributed two.
Cable, meanwhile, has made 44 saves on the year, has a save percentage of .898 and a goals against average of .520, which is fifth best in the NAIA. The shutout against Columbia was the teams' eighth on the year, which is the second most in the NAIA, while its .730 shutouts per game is first in the nation.
The Owls will be looking for redemption against a Hannibal-LaGrange (7-5; 5-2 AMC) team, that came to Fulton, Missouri, last year and escaped with a 2-1 (2OT) victory, despite being outshot 32-14 in the game.
After starting the 2014 year 1-3, the Trojans have won six out of its last eight games, including coming off a 2-0 victory against Freed-Hardeman University on October 11
th.
On the season, HLG is led by Manuel Saez, who leads the team in goals (seven), assists (five), points (19) and shots (39). Nathan Sapp has totaled three goals, while four other Trojans have scored two a piece.
In net, Jorge Bravo Gonzalez has made 37 saves in 10 games, allowing 10 goals in 835:36 minutes of play, while owning a goals against average of 1.08.
Currently in the AMC, Hannibal-LaGrange holds down the No. 3-spot with 15 points, while WWU is No. 6 in the AMC, totaling 10 points.
