Women's Basketball Looks To Stay Perfect In AMC Play Against Williams Baptist College

French ranks sixth in the NAIA in free-throw percentage (88.5).
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.—After collecting its sixth consecutive victory on Thursday night, the (RV) William Woods University women's basketball team will now travel on the road in search of its seventh win in a row, as the Owls will take on Williams Baptist College. Tipoff will start at 2 p.m.

The Owls (7-1; 3-0 AMC), are coming off an impressive showing inside Anderson Arena on the offensive and defensive side of the ball against Hannibal-LaGrange University, as WWU defeated the Lady Trojans, 72-55.

Offensively, the team had 10 players record at least two points in the game, making it three straight outings that 10 or more players have totaled a minimum of two points.

Junior Nia Lateju scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, while Kennedy Volkart and Blake French contributed 13 each. Senior guard Destani Stensrud was the final Owl to collect double-figure points, as the Exeter, Missouri, native added 10 points and a team-high four assists.

Defensively, William Woods limited the Lady Trojans to 41.8 percent shooting from the floor and a mere 8.3 three-point percentage.

The victory over HLG gave the Owls its sixth straight victory, while in its past three games, the team has won by a combined 130 points, as they have been getting contributions from numerous players in each outing.

On the season, the team is scoring 77.1 points per game and shooting 44.5 percent from the field, while defensively, they are holding its opponents to 57.9 points, 36.6 percent shooting from the floor and forced 157 turnovers.

Lateju leads the offense with a team-high 12.5 point per game average, while the Norwalk, California, native, is shooting 47.3 percent from the field and is tied for second with 38 rebounds.

French, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, is second on the Owls in points per game (12.1) and assists (19), but leads the team in field goal percentage (58.6) and free-throw percentage (88.5), which ranks her sixth overall in the NAIA.

Junior guard Marissa Webb, meanwhile, is averaging just under 10.0 points per game (9.8), is shooting 50.9 percent from the field and continues to be a threat from downtown, as the Poplar Bluff, Missouri, native, is hitting 51.9 percent of her shots from the arc, which is sixth-best in the NAIA.

Volkart is averaging 9.1 points per game, but leads the team in rebounds (43) and blocks (eight), while Stensrud is putting up 7.3 points and has dished out a team-high 26 assists.

Last year, when these two teams' met, the Owls beat the Lady Eagles (3-4; 2-1 AMC) 56-42 on January 7th and followed that up with a 69-51 victory on February 1st.

This season, WBC has won two of its last three games, including defeating Missouri Baptist University 69-65 on Thursday night.

Megan Goza scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added 11 rebounds against the Spartans, while Michaela Thompson contributed 12 points in just over 19:00 minutes of play.

On the season, Goza is scoring a team-high 15.3 points per game, while shooting 54.7 percent from the field, 73.3 percent from the free-throw line and has totaled a team-high 65 rebounds.

Jasmine Ford is second on the team in points per game (11.4), while Da'Monique Brown is averaging 10.3 points and holds a shooting percentage of 51.1 percent.
