Women's Basketball Has 15 Players Score In An 85-47 Rout of BenU-Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The William Woods University women's basketball team had 15 players in the scoring column on Tuesday night, as they picked up an 85-47 rout against Benedictine University at Springfield.

Sophomore Veronica Jones scored a career-high 15 points off the bench to lead William Woods (18-8, 11-7 AMC) to a 38-point blowout of Benedictine University at Springfield (5-21, 3-15) in American Midwest Conference action.  The guard hit 7-of-11 from the floor, including 1-of-2 from behind the arc, in the career-best performance.

Jones was one of three WWU players in double-figures on the day, as Stephanie Copelin chipped in 11 points and Kendra Vernatti posted a career-best 10 points. William Woods had 15 players in the scoring column on Tuesday, and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 51-7 in points off the bench.

Andraquay Quinnine hit a team-high three trifectas in a little less than 10 minutes of action on Tuesday. As a team, the Owls hit 10 shots from behind the arc. The performance marks the sixth time this season WWU has hit 10 or more three-pointers in a game.

William Woods nearly hit 50 percent from the field, as they drained 33-of-68 from the floor for a 48.5 shooting percentage. The Owls handed out 23 assists in the victory, led by Vernatti 's career-best five handouts.

The Owls defense allowed BenU-Springfield to hit just 25.3 percent for the game. The 47 points allowed by WWU is the lowest point total against them since Jan. 23, when they gave up 46 points to Hannibal-LaGrange in Anderson Arena.

Jerrica Walls scored a team-high 15 points in a losing effort for Benedictine University at Springfield. It was a hard fought 15 points, as the guard hit 6-of-17 from the floor.

WWU was able to build a double-digit lead over the game's first four minutes, as they held a 16-3 advantage at the 16:23 mark after a Quinnine three-pointer.

The Lady Bulldogs got a basket on their next possession to bring the score to 16-5. William Woods held BenU-Springfield scoreless over the next five minutes of the game and used a 10-0 run to build a 26-5 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half.

A Destani Stensrud three-pointer gave the Owls a 30-point advantage at 40-10 with six minutes left in the frame. WWU would build its lead to 34 points in the first half before settling for the 47-16 lead going into the locker room.

William Woods maintained its 30-point advantage for the majority of the second half, as they took the 38-point victory over Benedictine University at Springfield, 85-47.

The Owls will continue its three-game week on Thursday night when they entertain AMC newcomer Mid-Continent University. Thursday will be senior night at Anderson Arena as the Owls will be honor its four seniors, Chanel Benson, Stephanie Copelin, Andraquay Quinnine, and Katie Scherder. Tip-off for this contest is set for 5:30 p.m.
