PARKVILLE, Mo.—The (RV) William Woods University women's basketball team will look for its second consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls will take on Park University on the road. Tipoff will start at 2 p.m.
The Owls (9-5; 5-4 AMC), are coming off an impressive 41-point victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday night, as they defeated the Eutectics, 72-31.
The team shot 39.2 percent from the floor, while 12 different players were able to score at least two points in the game.
Kendra Vernatti, a junior guard, led the Owls offensively, scoring a team-high 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
Senior
Paige Stewart earned her first start on the season and she came through for the team, having 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
Nikki Callahan, a freshman, added nine points and eight boards, while
Veronica Jones contributed eight points.
Junior
Nia Lateju contributed seven points a game-high nine rebounds, while Julia added seven points off the bench.
Grace Wade and
Dennisha Rice had five points, while
Lindsey Cornelius and
Karinne Lane totaled three points. Lane also set a career-high for herself on the night, dishing out a game-high seven assists.
Blake French and
Kennedy Volkart, rounded out the score sheet, as the duo totaled two points each.
On the season, the Owls are scoring 70.6 points per game, while shooting 41.6 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from the charity stripe. Defensively, the team continues to be a tough one, holding its opponents to 59.3 points and a field goal percentage of 36.9 percent.
Lateju continues to lead the offense, as the Norwalk, California, native, is averaging 12.6 points per game, while hitting 44.8 percent of her shots from the floor and 36.4 percent of her attempts from downtown.
French, meanwhile, a senior guard, has continued to play well in her final season with WWU, averaging 11.6 points, while shooting 55.7 percent from the field, 40.6 percent from the three-point arc and 86.1 percent from the free throw line, all of which are team-high marks.
Volkart is averaging 8.9 points per game, while leading the Owls in rebounds (84) and blocks (16). Junior
Marissa Webb is fourth on the team in scoring (7.5 ppg), while owning a field goal percentage of 42.7 percent and a three-point percentage of 40.0.
Awaiting the Owls will be a Pirates (5-6; 4-4 AMC) team, which has won three out of its last four games, including coming off a 62-50 victory over Missouri Baptist University on Thursday evening.
In that outing, three players reached double-figures for Park, led by Lauren LaBonde and Jordan Brown, as the duo racked up 11 points apiece. Christy Saldana was the third player to reach double-digit numbers, as she went a percent 5-of-5 from the floor and finished with 10 points.
On the season, Park is scoring 63.9 points per game and shooting 39.1 percent from the floor, while defensively, the numbers are nearly similar, as they are surrendering 63.6 points and holding teams' to a field goal percentage of 39.3 percent.
Channell Mackey has led the offense in seven games this year, averaging a team-high 19.9 points per game, while shooting 85.4 percent from the free throw line.
LaBonde is putting up 10.3 points to go along with a 33.9 field goal percentage, while Latice Butler is third on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg), but first in total rebounds (56).
