CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. - With its 2015 regular season coming to an end, the William Woods University men's soccer team is set for its last non-conference game, as the team will hit the road and pay a visit to Mount Mercy University Saturday. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
Â
The Owls (8-5-3; 4-3-3 AMC), are coming off a 4-3 (2OT) deficit to AMC foe Lindenwood University-Belleville, in heart breaking fashion. It was WWU fourth consecutive game that the team couldn't find the back of the net to end the game in regulation.
Â
Despite being outshot 39-12 in the match-up, the Owls were able to take control early by jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead, with an impressive goal from
Jesse Jordan and then followed by a goal from
Lendell Louis-Jacques. But that didn't stop the Lynxs, as LU-Belleville fought to tie the game up (2-2) right before half, sending the teams into halftime with a new ball game on their hands.
Â
In the second half, it was the Owls once again to strike blood first and regained the lead (3-2) with an
Alex Severino goal. However, LU-Belleville knotted the game up again with a goal in the 78
th minute.
Â
The score would remain the same at the end of 90:00 minutes and we were off to overtime, as neither team could break the tied score and find the game winning goal in the first overtime, 10:00 more minutes were needed. Three minutes into the second overtime is when the Lynxs struck, grabbing the 4-3 (2OT) win over the Owls.
Â
Louis-Jacques paced the way for WWU, as the sophomore got things going again offensively, recording two assists and a goal, while Jordan and Severino both collected a goal and two shots on night, and
Harrison Bray handed out a season-high two assists.
Â
In the net,
Bridger Pretz with just his third start on the year, posted a career-high 17 saves on the night.
Â
Mount Mercy University is 13-4 on the season, while being apart of the Independent Conference with a 0-1 record. The Mustangs have had an impressive season, which has seen the team capture 13 victories in its last 14 matches.
Â
In its last outing, MCC fell 3-4 to a fellow AMC opponent Hannibal-LaGrange University earlier this week.
Â
On the season, Marco Fichtner leads the team in several categories, which includes goals (11), assists (10), shots (53), and points (32) while four of those goals were game winning goals.
Â
In the net, Goar Kempf-Heitlinger has recorded 23 saves on the year with a goal against average 1.37 in 593:18 minutes.
