FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University men's soccer team will look to close out the 2015 regular season on a high note, as the Owls host Central Baptist College on Senior Day at Firley Field. Kick-off will start at 3 p.m.
Prior to the game, the Owls will honor its two seniors,
Andrew Bernal and
Alex Severino. Bernal, a Northridge, California, native, has scored three goals in 23 collegiate games with WWU. He is also a two-time Academic All-AMC selectee.
Severino, a Wildwood, Missouri, native, has totaled 20 goals over his four year career, with this season being his breakout year, as he has scored a career-high nine goals for 19 points. Last year, Severino, picked up All-AMC First-Team honors, after scoring six goals, two of which were game winners.
The Owls (8-6-3; 4-3-3 AMC), jumped out of conference play in its last time out, as they paid a visit to (RV) Mount Mercy University, but its comeback attempt fell short, as the Owls were defeated, 3-2.
The team was outshot 16-14 in the game, while getting goals from Severino in the 10
th minute and
Julian Wells at the 79:35 mark. In net,
Bridger Pretz and
Cody Matthews each played a half and combined for four saves.
Currently in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) standings, the Owls are a tie for fifth with 15 points. The team is just three points out of the No. 4 seed in the standings, which belongs to Hannibal-LaGrange University.
In AMC play, the Owls have found success, as they have outscored its opponents 18-11 in 10 conference games. There are five players with two goals during that span, which includes,
Jesse Jordan,
Jesse Bowers, Severino, Wells and
Anthony Moscatello.
During those 10 games, the team has also added 10 assists and have been led by
Lendell Louis-Jacques, who has contributed a team-high four.
On the year, the Owls have found the back of the net 40 times and nine of those goals have from Severino, who has scored in consecutive games.
Rodrigo Alves and Moscatello, meanwhile, have totaled six goals, while
Brett Hodges, Louis-Jacques and Wells have added three. Louis-Jacques, has dished out 11 assists, which ranks him second in the AMC and 10
th overall in the NAIA.
In net, Pretz, who is filling in for the injured
Conor Cable, has done well in his five starts on the year, as he has made 35 saves, while allowing just seven goals, for a goals against average of 1.36.
Central Baptist College (5-7-2; 2-5-1 AMC), will be looking to win its third consecutive game on Tuesday, as they are coming off a 9-0 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
The Mustangs scored four goals in the first and five goals in the second game, while they outshot the Eutectics an eye-popping, 47-0.
On the season, the Mustangs, are led by Jarrel Grimes, who has scored a team-high seven goals in 10 starts. Callum Morris has totaled four, while Joe Adkins, Oscar Martinez and Ferdinand Matebu, have each added three goals.
In net, Bryce Deaton leads duo of goaltenders, as he has made 11 starts, while making 46 saves, for a save percentage of .708 and has allowed 19 goals.
