FULTON, Mo. – The (RV) William Woods University women's basketball team is ready to get its American Midwest Conference (AMC) part of schedule underway, as the Owls host the No.17-ranked Lyon College on Thursday night, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

The Owls (4-0; 0-0 AMC), opens up conference play on an impressive four game win streak, as the team in its last outing, defeated Graceland University 69-49. The team shot 40.8 percent from the field and dominated the glass, having a rebounding advantage of 56-38 over the Yellow jackets.

Leading the way for WWU, was
Nia Lateju, who recorded her second double-double on the year, as she netted a game-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added 10 rebounds, while after these efforts, she was named to her first ever AMC Player of the Week honors.

Kennedy Volkart, also earned her second double-double on the season, as she totaled 10 points and tied the game-high with 11 rebounds, all of which were on the defensive side of the glass.

On the season, the Owls have outscored its opponents 284-223, shooting 41.0 percent from the floor and 74.0 percent from the free throw line as a team. WWU, also have a 207-133 rebounding advantage over its opponents, while averaging 51.8 boards a game, which is ranked fourth in the nation.

Lateju, the senior forward is pacing the Owls, averaging 17.3 points per game, shooting a red-hot 53.8 percent from the field, while grabbing 8.3 rebounds per game.

Volkart, the Russellville, Missouri native, has also had a stellar start to the season, averaging 14 points per game, earning a 42.6 field goal percentage, while the junior is leading the team in the rebound category with 39 on the year, collecting just under 10 boards (9.8) a game.

The trio of
Julia Wells,
Kelsey Scherder and
April Gebke, have all contributed to the teams' success, as all are averaging eight points a game, proving to be an offensive threat. Wells, the senior stepping into a starting position on 12-of-27 shooting, as Schreder, leads the team from behind the arc, going 4-for-15, while Gebke has recorded a team-high seven steals and 21 assists.

The No. 17-ranked Lyon College is coming off a 27-7 overall record in 2014-15, as the Scots finished in second seed of the AMC with a 21-3 record, right ahead of WWU. The Owls would then meet up with Lyon College in the Semifinals of the AMC postseason tournament, where the Scots were able to advance and defeat WWU 65-46.

The Scots are currently, 2-1 on the season, as the team is coming off a 77-47 dominating victory against Evangel University last week. As a team, they are averaging 66.7 points per game, outscoring its opponents 200-166, while the Scots are shooting over 40.0 percent from both the field (43.5) and three point line (45.1), which the 45.1 percent from downtown is fourth best in the NAIA.

Leading the way for Lyon College, is Whitney O'Dell, who is posting 12 points per game and shooting 70.0 percent (14-of-20) from the floor, as Taylor Gaedtke has chipped in 10.7 points per game, grabbing a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game. Jami Jackson is another player the Owls will have to keep an eye on, as she is third on the team in scoring with nine points per game and leads the team in assists (10) and steal (seven).
