FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team looks to bounce back to its winning ways, in search for its first American Midwest Conference (AMC) win of the season on Saturday, as conference newcomer, Central Baptist College comes to town for a 2:00 p.m. match-up.

The Owls (4-1; 0-1 AMC), suffered a 64-61 heart breaking deficit last night in the final seconds to the No. 17-ranked Lyon College. Despite controlling most of the game and heading into the fourth quarter with a padded lead, which looked as if the Owls were going to pull an upset, the Scots closed out the final frame outscoring WWU 22-7 and hit a three pointer right before the horn sounded to secure the victory Thursday night.

William Woods ending the night shooting a 41.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the three point line, while Lyon College closed out shooting 37.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 from downtown.

The Owls had four players reach double figures on the night, leading the way was
Kelsey Scherder who recorded 13 points, as
Marissa Webb ended the night with 11 points, going 4-for-10 from the field, while
Nia Lateju and Kendra Vernatii each chipped in 10 points a piece.
Julia Wells, also had a strong display, grabbing a team-high nine boards and three assists, along with four points.

On the season, Lateju, the AMC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, leads the team with her 15.8 points per game, while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor. The senior is also tied for second on the team with 37 rebounds on the year, averaging seven a game.
Kennedy Volkart, is another player for WWU averaging double-digits (12 points per game), while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and leading the team with nine rebounds per game. Newcomer,
April Gebke has put herself in the leaderboard for the Owls, recorded a team-high eight steals and 25 assists.

This will be just the second time these two teams have met up, as CBC entered the AMC for the first time this season, while WWU holds the 1-0 advantage over the Mustangs.

Central Baptist College enters Saturday's game with a 2-2 record on the season, while the Mustangs are also looking for its first AMC win, as they fell 78-42 to Columbia College on Thursday night.

In the Mustangs' four games of the season, the team has averaged 74 points a game and shooting 41.0 percent from the floor, as Denesha Dillard is leading the way, averaging 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Two other players that are averaging double-digits for CBC , which the Owls will have to keep an eye on are Courtney Davidson (13.3 ppg) and Aaliyah Block (10.0 ppg), while Kaylen Taylor has collected a team-high 27 assists.
