FULTON, Mo.—The (RV) William Woods University women's basketball team returns to Anderson Arena on Saturday afternoon, as they look for an important American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory against Lindenwood University-Belleville. Tipoff will start at 2 p.m.
The Owls (16-7; 12-6 AMC), are coming off a 70-55 loss against No. 1-ranked Freed-Hardeman University back on February 7
th. The team shot 40.4 percent from the field and were led by sophomore
Kennedy Volkart's 14 points and perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the floor.
Junior
Nia Lateju contributed 13 points and a team-high six rebounds, while senior
Blake French added nine points and a team-high four steals.
Still the Owls have won 8 out of its last 10 games, as they have posted 70.8 points and are shooting 41.0 percent from the floor. Defensively, they are limiting teams' to 58.0 points and a field goal percentage of 37.2 percent.
Leading the way offensively has been Lateju, as the Norwalk, California, native, is scoring 11.2 points, while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor, 77.4 percent from the free throw line and tallied 56 rebounds.
Senior
Destani Stensrud, is averaging 10.8 points in five games since returning from her injury. The Exeter, Missouri, native, is shooting 45.0 percent from the field and has added 14 steals. Volkart, meanwhile, is scoring 10.6 points, while leading WWU in rebounds (58) and blocked shots (nine).
On the season, the Owls are scoring 70.6 points, with Lateju averaging a team-high 12.3 points per game and totaling 128 rebounds. French, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, is averaging 11.2 points, hitting a team-high 52.4 percent of her shots from the floor and has totaled 39 steals.
Volkart continues to have a career-year offensively, as she is averaging 9.9 points to go along with her 41.7 field goal percentage. Stensrud is averaging 7.3 points and leads the team with 58 assists, while
Marissa Webb is scoring 7.1 points and shooting 34.2 percent from downtown.
This is a big game for both Lindenwood-Belleville (15-10; 14-5 AMC) and the Owls, as the Lady Lynx currently stand in third place in the AMC standings, while WWU is holding fourth place, just 1.5 games behind LU-Belleville.
The last time these two teams' met was back on January 3
rd and the Lady Lynx were able to fend off the Owls with a last second free throw and go on for the 73-72 victory.
Lindenwood-Belleville will enter Anderson Arena winning seven out of its last eight games, including currently riding a season-high four game winning streak.
The team earned its fourth win in a row against Missouri Baptist University on Thursday night, as they cruised past the Spartans, winning 91-50.
LU-Belleville shot 51.4 percent from the field and were led by Stephanie Cathcart recording a double-double, as she totaled a game-high 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting and added 11 boards.
Jasmine Gibbs-Brown netted a career-high 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while Kindra Brown and Rilea Huff totaled 12 and 10 points respectively.
On the season, Lindenwood-Belleville is averaging 73.0 points and are led by Shelby Kohrmann's 18.5 point per game average, while netting 83.5 percent of her shots from the free throw line.
Gibbs-Brown is second on the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (52.8 percent), but does lead the team in rebounds (118).
