ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The (RV) William Woods University women's basketball team will look for redemption on Tuesday night, as the Owls will take on Harris-Stowe State University. Tipoff will start at 5:30 p.m.
The Owls (17-7; 13-6 AMC), are coming off an impressive 77-65 victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville on Saturday afternoon, as the team shot 49.1 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from downtown in the win.
Leading the way on the day was
Kelsey Scherder, as the Bowling Green, Missouri, native, netted a career-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting off the bench for WWU.
Sophomore
Kennedy Volkart tallied 12 points, went 6-of-6 from the free throw line and totaled seven rebounds. Senior guards
Destani Stensrud and
Dennisha Rice, meanwhile, added 11 and 10 points respectively and combined for eight assists.
Blake French scored nine points and totaled two steals, while
Julia Wells had a strong game off the bench, having nine points to go along with a game and career-high 10 rebounds. Junior
Nia Lateju, a Norwalk, California, native, had an impressive game on both ends of the floor, having eight points and a career-high six blocks on the defensive end.
On the season, the Owls are scoring 70.9 points per game, while shooting 41.8 percent from the field. Lateju, who is averaging 11.6 points in AMC play, is scoring 12.1 points on the season through 23 games, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field.
French, a St Charles, Missouri, native, is averaging 11.1 points and hitting a team-high 52.4 percent of her shots from the floor, while also shooting 80.0 percent from the free throw line and has added a team-high 41 steals, 34 of which have come in conference play.
Volkart upped her season average to 10.0 points per game, while continuing to lead the team in rebounds (146) and blocked shots (24). Stensrud, an Exeter, Missouri, native, is putting up 7.5 points on the year and has dished out a team-high 62 assists, while junior transfer
Marissa Webb is averaging 7.0 points.
William Woods will be looking to split the regular season series against Harris-Stowe State (10-13; 9-10 AMC), as the Hornets came to Anderson Arena back on January 6
th and shocked the Owls, winning 69-62.
The Hornets snapped its two game skid in its last time out, as they defeated Missouri Baptist University, 65-53 on February 14
th.
The team shot 38.7 percent from the floor and were led by Mia Wesley, as she scored a game-high 31 points on 12-of-24 shooting. KeAris Vaughn totaled 11 points, while Shanique Buford added 10.
On the season, HSSU is scoring 62.3 points and are led by Wesley's 19.6 points per game average through 17 games played. Buford is averaging 10.8 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the floor, while Alexis Minner is totaling 9.1 points per game and totaled a team-high 53 assists.
Vaughn is fourth on the team in scoring (8.4 ppg), while Lorraine Pitchford is putting up 8.1 points and has grabbed down a team-high 215 rebounds.
The Owls are currently .5 games out of the No. 3 seed in the AMC standings, which currently belongs to Lindenwood-Belleville, who plays Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday night as well.
