ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After having the weekend off from competition, the William Woods University men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, as the Owls pay a visit to Missouri Baptist University. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
The Owls (5-3-1; 1-1-1 AMC), are coming off a stellar 5-2 win over Culver-Stockton College last week, a dominating victory that pushed the team's win streak up to a season-high of three. The five goal rally also tied WWU season-high and made its third straight game putting five goals on the scoreboard.
WWU controlled the game right from kick-off, in large part to sophomore
Lendell Louis-Jacques, as the Montreal, Canada native, ended the night with a career-high three assists and one goal, as his lone goal came from an impressive 27 yards out, finding the back of the right corner in a hurry.
Another Owl who had a standout performance was
Rodrigo Alves, who was named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Offensive Player of the Week, after posting a team-high eight shots and two goals on the night. Defensively, the Owls goalkeeper,
Conor Cable recorded six saves and picked up his third win on the season.
As of late, the Owls have been red hot offensively, as the team has scored 15 goals in the past three games, while outscoring its opponents 26-11 on the season. They are second in the AMC in goals per game with 26, which is good enough for 26th in the nation.
Pacing the way is
Anthony Moscatello, the senior has complied seven goals on the season and a team-high 15 points. Right behind him is Alves, as the sophomore has found the back of the net in the past three games for WWU, pushing his season total up to six, while leading the team in shots with 24. Louis-Jacques has handed out a remarkable seven assists in nine games, which ties him for first place in the AMC with Park University's Louis Souza and ranks him fifth in the nation. In the net, Cable has recorded 29 saves in 536:12 minutes of play with a goal against average of 1.510.
MBU comes into the match-up with a 2-5 overall record and are 0-1 in AMC play. The Spartans are currently on a three game skid, which all three deficits have been determined by one goal. In the team's last outing MBU fell 1-0 to Hannibal-LaGrange University in its AMC debut of the year.
On the season, the Spartans have been outscored 9-12 by its opponents, as Gerardo Espinoza and Luke Micic have combined for four of the team's nine goals, while Espinoza has also collected one assist on the year. Another player to keep an eye on is Joshua Phillips who leads the team in the shot department with 18 and in the net, Brendan Camahan has tallied 24 saves in seven games.
