Men's Soccer Pays A Visit To Ottawa University On Saturday Night

Severino leads the team with two goals on the season
OTTAWA, Kan. -  After capturing a 4-2 home-opening win against Avila University on Wednesday night, the William Woods University men's soccer team pays a visit to Ottawa University Saturday for a non-conference match-up with the Braves. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

In playing in front of a large crowd in its home opener, which was a very fast paced and physical game between WWU (1-1) and Eagles (0-3), there were a total of 35 shots and a combined 30 fouls in the outing.

The Owls got on the board first at the 3:55 mark, as Lendell Louis-Jacques tallied his second assist on the year who crossed the ball right past Avila University keeper, which found Alex Severino and he buried his second goal on the season, to give WWU a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the scoring department really picked up for both teams, as WWU struck again in the 48th minute, with Severino finding Brett Hodges, who netted his first goal on the season, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.

Avila University quickly responded, as Louis Gallagher got behind the WWU defense, and scored on the far post, to make it a 2-1 outing. Then Avila's Brandon Brewster was able to score the Eagles equalizer, off the post into the back of the net, making it a new game at 2-2.

WWU would regain the momentum, as Jesse Bowers connected with Anthony Moscatello, who found the back of the net, giving the Owls a 3-2 advantage. Then after a Rodrigo Alves goal at the mark, that would seal the deal for William Woods, securing the 4-2 win over the Eagles.

On the offensive side of the ball, Alex Severino leads the team in several categories, including goals (two), points (five) and shots (five). Conor Cable recorded his first win on the season in his last outing, posting one save.

Ottawa University is coming off a 3-15-1 overall record, while finishing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference with 3-5-1 record in 2014.

The Braves are currently still looking for its first win on its season, as the team has had a rocky start, dropping its first four games (0-4). Offensively, Jose Ventura is the lone Brave to record a goal so far, while Kyler Grimes leads the team with nine shots. However, Ottawa has been outshot 40-11 by its opponents.
