Box Score FULTON, Mo. – For the second straight season, the William Woods University women's tennis team defeated NCAA Division II Lindenwood University, 7-2.
 
William Woods jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Lions as the Owls took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Claiming the first point for the Owls was the doubles team of 
Alba Salinas and 
Zlata Shuraeva, who won 8-2, over Anna Barbasheva and Diana Castro. The Owls came back with 
Paige Smith and 
Karyna Sagalai defeating Rebeca Aguilar and Alexis McCarthy, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles. The Owls were looking for a sweep of doubles, but the Owls team of 
Chelsea Steward and 
Julia Mulder were defeated, 8-6, by Clara Piccamiglio and Alexandra Medvedeva.
 
The lead grew to 3-1 in favor of the Owls after 
Zlata Shuraeva defeated Rebeca Aguilar, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 4 singles. The lead went back down to 3-2, after Melicharkova defeated 
Alba Salinas, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 1 singles, which would be the last point the Lions would get in the match.
 
The Owls came back taking the next four matches to take the set, 7-2. Claiming the fourth point for the Owls was 
Felicia Cesar in No. 2 singles. Cesar defeated Barbasheva, 6-4, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, 
Karyna Sagalai defeated Clara Piccamiglio. Sagalai dropped set one, 7-5, before winning the next two, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Winning in No. 5 singles for the Owls was 
Julia Mulder. Mulder defeated Alexis McCarthy, 6-0, 6-2. 
Chelsea Steward won the last match for the Owls as she defeated Diana Castro, 6-4, 6-3, giving the Owls a 7-2 victory over the Lions of Lindenwood.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 15th when they travel to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to face Southeastern Missouri State University and University of Tennessee at Martin.
