Women’s Tennis Falls to NCAA SEMO and Tennessee Martin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Tennis team was defeated twice on Saturday, both times by NCAA Division I teams. The Owls were defeated 8-1, by Southeast Missouri State and then 9-0 to Tennessee at Martin.

The Owls fell behind early in the contest as they Red Hawks took all three doubles matches against the Owls. Claiming the first match was Anais Emelie and Kseniya Zonova defeated Alba Salinas and Felicia Cesar, 6-2. Taking the second match was Isabella Krupa and Oleksandra Doroshenko defeated Paige Smith and Zlata Shuraeva, 6-2. Rounding out the doubles matches was Mila Majtan and Annisa Warasanti defeating Giorgia Simontini and Karyna Sagalai, 6-3.
 
Things did not get better for the Owls in singles the Owls only took one match in singles. Zlata Shuraeva won the only singles match for WWU in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 over Mila Majtan.
 
In others singles action, Zonova defeated Karyna Sagalai, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 1 singles. Krupa defeated Alba Salinas, 6-4, 0-6, 10-4, in No. 2 singles. Doroshenko defeated Felicia Cesar, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. Ana Canhaute-Torres defeat Anna Braack, 6-1, 6-7, 10-7, in No. 5 singles and Warasanti defeated Giorgia Simontini, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 6 singles action.
 
Vs. Tennessee at Martin (Complete Results)
In the Owls second match of the day, the Owls were defeated by NCAA Division I University of Tennessee at Martin, 9-0. In doubles action the Skyhawks won all three matches. In No. 2 singles, the first match done, Buruca Tari and Asel Jumamukhambetova defeated Alba Salinas and Felicia Cesar, 6-0. Third doubles were done next as Elina Geut and Olha Burak defeated Anna Braack and Giorgia Simontini, 6-0. The final match done was No. 1 doubles, Jemima Potter and Sarah Candeloro defeated Zlata Shuraeva and Paige Smith, 6-4.
 
In singles action the Skyhawks continued to dominate the Owls as they took every singles match over the Owls. Candeloro defeated Sagalai, 6-4, 6-1, in No. 1 singles. Jumamukhambetova defeated Salinas, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 2. Tari defeated Cesar, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 3 singles. Potter defeated Shuraeva, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 4 singles and Plantada-Cortese defeated Braack, 6-1, 6-1. Geut defeated Simontini, 6-2, 6-2.
