FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball looks for its fourth straight win on Tuesday night when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville at 5:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
The Owls (18-7, 13-6 AMC), picked up another important American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory on Saturday as they defeated Park University, 67-60. With the win, William Woods remains in fourth place in the AMC, and hold a game lead over Harris-Stowe State University in the standings.
Against Park, WWU looked as if they were pulling away as they led by 18 points, 54-36, entering the fourth quarter. However, Park started making a run as the Pirates scored the first 13 points of the quarter and outscored WWU, 24-13, in the quarter. William Woods hung on for a 67-60 victory.
Leading the way for WWU was junior
April Gebke, as the Bartelso, Ill. native, scored 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Following Rollins was
Nia Lateju who scored 15 points. Lateju was 3-for-5 shooting for the contest and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
The win for the Owls was its third straight victory and 18th victory on the season.
On this three game winning-streak, the Owls have two players averaging double-figures. Senior
Nia Lateju leads the way averaging 12.7 points per game and
Kennedy Volkart follows averaging 10.6 points per game.
On the season, the Owls are posting 66.2 points per game, while hitting 39.5 percent of its shots from the floor and are outrebounding its opponents 1,100-937. WWU is collecting 44 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the nation.
Senior
Nia Lateju paces the offense thus far, averaging 12.4 points per game on 43.6 percent shooting and is third on the team in rebounds (166). Volkart is right behind Lateju, scoring 10.4 points per game, while coming in second on the team in rebounds (180).
Junior duo of
Kelsey Scherder and
April Gebke are both scoring just under nine points a game (8.4 ppg) and (8.2 ppg), respectively. Senior
Julia Wells continues to lead the team in rebounds with 184 on the year, while her 3.4 offensive rebounds per game, ranks her No. 15 in NAIA.
Linedenwood-Belleville, (9-16; 9-10 AMC), are coming off a 86-61 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange in its last outing, putting the Lady Lynx a game ahead of eighth place Park University in the AMC standings.
On the season, Rilea Huff has been leading the Lady Lynx in scoring as she is averaging 14.2 points per game. Huff is coming off a career-night where she scored 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 8-of-11 on three-pointers. Besides Huff, the Lady Lynx have four more players scoring in double figures on the season. Tiara Bramlett leads the team in rebounding as she is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game.
William Woods looks for the sweep against Lindenwood-Belleville on Tuesday night. Earlier this season on January 5th, William Woods came away with a 68-65 victory over the Lady Lynx. Leading by one point with 30 seconds to go in the game Lateju hit a jumper with 15 seconds left putting the Owls ahead by three. The Lady Lynx attempted a three at the buzzer but it was no good and WWU came away with a 68-65 victory.
