Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (Full Results) The No. 6 William Woods University women's tennis team collected its second win of the season on Sunday afternoon as they defeated NCAA Division II, Rockhurst University, 6-3.
WWU earned two of the first three points as they took two of three doubles matches to begin the day. WWU collected the first point of the day when No. 2 doubles of
Zlata Shuraeva and
Alba Salinas defeated Tamara Santos and Sara Flexbeard, 8-5. Rockhurst tied the match at 1-1 by taking No. 1 doubles. The Hawks team of Emma Schelble and Kim Vrugteveen defeated
Karyna Sagalai and
Paige Smith. William Woods took the final doubles match as
Julia Mulder and
Felicia Cesar defeated Emma Persson and Janine Koleta, 9-8 (6) to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
The Hawks did not go away as the match was tied at 2-2 after Janine Koleta defeated
Zlata Shuraeva, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6, in No. 2 singles.
The Owls responded by taking the next four singles matches.
Karyna Sagalai defeated Emma Schelble, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, in no. 1 singles putting the Owls ahead, 3-2. The Owls lead grew to 4-2, after
Alba Salinas defeated Kim Vrugteveen, 6-2, 7-5, in no. 3 singles.
Julia Mulder clinched the win for the Owls by getting the Owls its fifth point of the match when she defeated Sara Flaxbeard, 6-0, 6-4, in no. 5 singles. Felicia Ceasar extended the Owls lead to 6-2 after defeated Tamara Santos, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-2, in no. 4 singles.
Rockhurst took the final point of the day when Emma Persson defeated Anna Braaack, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-8, in No. 6 singles.
William Woods returns to action on Wednesday, March 1st when they travel to Topeka, Kansas to face NCAA Division II Washburn University.
