Women’s Tennis Wins Heart/AMC Conference Championship

Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. – (Full ResultsFor the seconds straight season the William Woods University women's tennis team, won the Heart of American/American Midwest Conference Unaffiliated Group Tournament. WWU came away with a 5-0 victory over Missouri Valley College to win the championship.
 
With the win, William Woods earns an automatic berth to the 2017 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship, which is held May 16-20 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. The Owls will find out the national seeds and the bracket for the National Championship on Tuesday, May 9th at 5 p.m.
 
In doubles action, the Owls jumped out to a quick lead as Felicia Cesar and Paige Smith won No. 3 doubles, 8-0. WWU came back and won No. 1 doubles, 8-3, with the team of Zlata Shuraeva and Chelsea Steward and No. 2 doubles, 8-4, with Karyna Sagalai and Alba Salinas. After winning all three doubles matches, the Owls led 3-0. Full doubles results are located below.

William Woods took a 4-0 lead in singles action when No. 2 Zlata Shuraeva was leading 6-2, 3-0, before Elisabeth Wahle retired. WWU clinched the win when No. 1 singles Karyna Sagalai won 6-3, 6-0. Alba Salinas was leading 6-2, 5-2, in No. 3 singles but the match went unfished. The rest of the singles did start. Full singles results are located below:
