Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The William Woods University women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship for the second straight season with a 7-2 victory over Georgetown College.
WWU returns to action on Wednesday, May 17th when they face San Diego Christian (Calif.) in the second round. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
After dropping the first doubles match, the Owls rebounded by winning in the next two taking a 2-1 lead. WWU dropped No. 1 doubles, before No. 2 doubles of
Zlata Shuraeva and
Chelsea Steward won. The Owls third doubles team of
Karyna Sagalai and
Alba Salinas battled from behind to win 8-6. Full double results listed below:
WWU grew its lead to 3-1 after
Chelsea Steward won, 6-1 6-2, in No. 4 singles. Georgetown trimmed the lead to 3-2 by winning No 6 singles. After the Tigers won No. 6, WWU bounced back winning the rest of the matches. No. 5 singles,
Felicia Cesar, won 6-1, 6-2, putting the Owls ahead, 4-2.
Alba Salinas clinched the match for the Owls in No. 3 singles winning, 7-5, 6-1. The Owls also won No. 1,
Karyna Sagalai and No. 2 singles,
