Women’s Tennis Has Successful Day at DePauw Invite

Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. – (Full Results) Playing in its first tournament of the fall, the William Woods University women's tennis team had a successful day at the DePauw Fall Invitational, hosted by DaPauw University.
 
In the No. 1 singles draw, Karyna Sagalai won her match in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1, over Anna Thompson of Rose-Hulman. She advanced to the semifinals where she was defeated 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) by Jelena Vujanic of NCAA Division I Valparaiso.
 
Zlata Shuraeva was playing in the No. 2 singles draw where she won her quarterfinals match, 6-4, 6-3, over Ali Bush of DePauw University. Like Sagalai, Shuraeva was defeated in the semifinals by Meg Modesto of Valparaiso, 7-5, 6-4.
 
Playing in the No. 3 singles draw was Chelsea Steward. Steward won her quarterfinals match, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9). She had a no result in the semifinals and advanced to the championship of the third singles.
 
Ana Zavala also won her quarterfinals match in the No. 4 singles draw. She defeated Randi Wind of Valparaiso, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3). She followed it up with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the semifinals over Fanny-Jane Bando of Rose-Hulman to advance to the championship.
 
In No. 5 singles draw, Julia Mulder won her quarterfinals match 6-1, 6-0, over Madison Campbell of Transylvania. In the semifinals, Mulder came away with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hallie Roach of Valparaiso, advancing to the championship.
 
Abigail Lemberger came out and won her quarterfinals in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Reagan Jobe of Transylvania. She followed it up with a win by no result in the semifinals to advance to the championship.
 
In the doubles draw, Karyna Sagalai and Ana Zavala defeated Bella Evans and Fanny-Jande Banda, 8-0. They followed that with an 8-1 victory in the semifinals over Ali Bush and Amanda Showalter of DaPauw.
 
William Woods returns to action on September 8th and 9th when they travel to Topeka, Kansas to participate in the Wheatstate Tournament.
