Shuraeva and Zavala Earn Fourth Place Finishes at ITA Cup

Box Score ROME, Ga. – Zlata Shuraeva and Ana Zavala both earned fourth place finishes at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. on Saturday.
 
"Zlata fought hard in her singles match however came up a little bit short today against a player that finished #2 in the nation last year," remarked head coach Justin Stuckey. "Doubles was a tough one for us today as we started out the match by winning the first set playing some of the best doubles we had played all weekend however just were not able to pull through in the final points in the end. Overall, I am really proud of Ana and Zlata. They represented William woods well this weekend by finishing ranked in the top 4 in the singles and doubles national championships which is something no other program in the NAIA was able to accomplish."
 
Opening the day, Zlata Shuraeva started in the third-place match. She faced Daniela Farfan of Keiser University. Shuraeva was defeated 6-3, 6-3, by Farfan. Shuraeva finished fourth in singles.
 
Zavala and Shuraeva played Ljiljana Pajcin and Isidora Petkovic in the third-place match in doubles. After winning the first set, 6-1, the Owls could not close out the match. Pajcin and Petkovic won the next two, 6-1, 10-7 defeating the Owls.
