PELLA, Iowa – The William Woods men's track and field team opened their fall season Saturday Dec. 8
th at the Dutch Holiday Preview. Other participating schools were, Central College, Simpson College and Central Methodist University (Mo.).
There were no team scores kept in the competition.
Junior
Cole Schlief led the way for the Owls in the men's long jump finishing in second place with a jump of 6.45 meters. Senior
Brandon Evans jumped 6.35 meters that put him at a fourth place finish. Following three spots behind Edwards, was
Blaine Sarabia with a 5.66 meter jump.
Cole Brenneke finished in 10
th place jumping 5.31 meters and
Julian Muller-Williams rounded out WWU finishing in 11
th place jumping 4.86 meters in his first collegiate event.
With six events down, event seven was the weight throw in which William Pezold threw 9.88 meters and finished 5
th overall.
After competing early on, Evans placed top three in the triple jump. His 12.34 meter jump was enough to give him a third place finish.
The eleventh event of the meet was men's shot put in which two William Woods players placed. Freshmen William Pezold finished in fourth place throwing 10.78 meters. The other Owl to place was Brenneke who threw 9.78 meters.
Next up was the 60-meter dash. Freshmen, Donnovan McCarthy was the first Owl to finish with a time of 7.48. McCarthy finished 13
th overall in his first collegiate event. Following behind, was Edwards whose 7.62 time gave him a 15
th place finish. The third to finish was Brenneke who finished 21
st overall with a time of 7.89. Rounding out William Woods runners, was Muller-Williams who ran a 7.93 dash and finished in 23
rd place.
The final event for William Woods was the 600-meter run. Senior
Henrique Tsugiyama finished in third place with a 1:26.38 time. He was the Only WWU runner to place in the event.
William Woods will resume their season on January 19
th when they travel to Maryville, Mo. To compete at Northwest Missouri State University.
