ROLLA, Mo. - William Woods Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed at Missouri S&T's Dewey Allgood Invitational for their final competition of the regular season. Heading into conference, the Owls can feel confident after multiple top finishes from both sides.
Three Owls claimed first place in their individual event over the weekend.
Sarah Backes dominated the women's high jump field with a final number of 1.58 meters.
Michael Moore-Fondren outran his competition in the men's 100 meter with a time of 10.72.
Isiah Craighead continues his excellence in the men's javelin, rewriting the school record books again with a winning distance of 64.08 meters.
10 other William Woods athletes finished in the top five of their respective events, marking one of the most successful meets for each program this year.
"We had a fantastic end to our regular season," Coach Polacek had to say about the invitational. "Every athlete battled the cold temperatures and wind but they gave it their all.
Isiah Craighead,
Sarah Backes, and
Michael Moore-Fondren all won their events and had several others finish within the top 5! As we approach conference, every athlete has battled adversity and their own challenges and we couldn't be more proud!"
The Heart of America Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships will take place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa over the weekend of the May 1st.
