Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The William Woods University women's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, swept Southwestern College in the First Round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship, which is being held at the Mobile Tennis Center.

In the first matchup between the Owls and Moundbuilders, since March 19th, 2016, the Owls came away with a 9-0 victory over Southwestern. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-0 against the Moundbuilders.
 
The Owls jumped out to a quick lead on the Moundbuilders as they took all three doubles matches. In No. 2 doubles, Julia Mulder and Abigail Lemberger won, 8-1. Following them Zlata Shuraeva and Ana Zavala won 8-1 putting the Owls ahead 2-0. WWU got the third point when the third doubles team of Felicia Cesar and Chelsea Steward won 8-4.
 
In singles action, the Owls Zlata Shuraeva defeated Anna Mankoski in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 putting the Owls one point away from clinching the match.
 
Chelsea Steward clinched the match and win for the Owls with a straight set win, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 5 singles over Meghan Kindred.
 
Julia Mulder claimed a straight set victory, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles over Jerlecia Thompson. Ana Zavala won 6-3, 6-0, in No. 3 singles over Brailey McMinn.
 
Karyna Sagalai claimed the eighth point for the Owlsin the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Esperanza Contador in No. 1 singles. Felicia Cesar won the final match of the day with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Abigaill Groff in No. 4 singles.
 
With the win, the Owls advance to play the seventh seed University of Northwestern Ohio tomorrow in the Second Round. The match is set to start at 9 a.m.
