Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – After making to its third straight quarterfinals, the William Woods University women's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, ended after suffering a 5-0 loss to second seed Georgia Gwinnett College on Thursday afternoon.
The Owls finish the season with a record of 18-7 on the season and reached the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Quarterfinals for the third straight season. Full results can be seen below.
The defending national champions came out of the gate swinging on all cylinders as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Owls. WWU dropped No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, 8-2. WWU's third doubles team,
Felicia Cesar and
Chelsea Steward, battled in the set to get the Owls a point but fell short as they were defeated, 9-7.
Once singles action started, the Grizzlies continued to show why they have won the last two national championships as they did not let the Owls back in the match. Madeline Bosnjak defeated
Zlata Shuraeva, 6-0, 6-0. Henar Munoz clinched the match for Georgia Gwinnett with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over
Julia Perez Wienese.
