Owls Host William Baptist in First Round of AMC Conference Tournament

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team opens the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament Wednesday night as they face Williams Baptist. The Owls were awarded the fourth seed in the AMC tournament.

The ticket prices are set by the Conference and remain at last year's prices - $5 for adults and $2 for students with IDs/children under 12.  Only passes accepted for free admission are NAIA passes.

About Williams Baptist
The Eagles finished their 2018-19 campaign 19-10 overall and 15-9 in the AMC.  Over the course of 29 games, they averaged 64.9ppg for a total of 1,884 points. They currently hold four Top 25 National Rankings; 12th overall in blocks per game (4), 12th overall in total steals (345), 14th overall in steals per game (12) and 14th overall in total blocks (115).
 
Blessing Samuel has led the way for WBC the entire season. Her 12.8ppg puts her first on the team in scoring. She's totaled 371 total points and has consistently shot 44.6% from the field. Samuels holds four national rankings; 14th overall in total rebounds (270), 24th overall in total rebounds per game (9.3), 26th overall in offensive rebounds (3.3) and 31st overall in defensive rebounds (6).  On Jan. 19th she recorded a season high 32 points and 17 rebounds against Lindenwood-Belleville.
 
Also playing well for the Eagles, is Ashlyn Ellis. Her 11.1ppg puts her second on the team in scoring. Over the course of her 29 games, she has totaled in 179 points and 45% shooting. She also leads the team shooting 78% from the foul line. She made a career high 6 free throws against Columbia on Dec. 13.

Last season, they fell 91-57 to No. 6 Columbia in the first round of the 2018 AMC Conference Tournament.
 
About William Woods
The Owls had a strong finish to their 2018-19 season. For the fifth time in six seasons, WWU has won 20 plus games, going 20-10 this season. Since Feb. 12, they have won four straight games, defeating No. 17 Lyon, Central Baptist, Hannibal-LaGrange and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
 
In the 30 games they've played this season, they have averaged 64.9ppg for a total of 1,947 points. They shot an efficient 42% from the field, 32% from the three-point line and 68% from the foul line. The Owls currently hold six Top 25 National rankings; 11th overall in scoring defense per game (56), 14th overall in defensive rebounds per game (28), 14th overall in field goal percentage defense (35%), 20th overall in total defensive rebounds (34), 21st overall in total rebound margin (5) and 22nd overall in field goal percentage (42%).
 
Peyton Greenlee leads William Woods with 13.7ppg. She's currently shooting 44% from the field and 40% from three-point territory.  On Dec. 1 she scored a career high 34 points against Missouri Baptist.  In that same contest she also made a career high 11 field goals.  Greenlee currently holds four national rankings; 24th overall in 3-Pt FG Pct (40%), 33rd overall in total 3-Pt FG made (61), 41st overall in 3-Pt FG made per game (2) and 44th overall in total scoring (413).  Peyton became a member of the 1,000 Point Club on Jan. 22 in a win over Harris-Stowe.
 
Also playing well for WWU is Kaycee Gerald. Her 12.9ppg puts her right behind Greenlee in scoring.  She leads the Owls with 67 total steals and 73 total assists. Gerald is shooting 53% from the field, 39% from the three-point line and 74% from the foul line; she also holds four national rankings: 19th overall in total steals (67), 29th overall in steals per game (2.2), 35th overall in total assists (103) and 47th overall in assists per game (3.4). Like Greenlee, Gerald became the 25th member of the 1,000 Point Club on Feb. 9 in a victory over Harris-Stowe.
 
2018 American Midwest Conference Tournament
Last season the Owls defeated No.19 Lindenwood-Belleville 86-80 in double overtime to advance to the semifinal round where they fell 72-61 to No. 6 Columbia.
