ELSAH, IL. – William Woods University finished third overall at the American Midwest Championships Saturday evening.
Denver Horn was tabbed the AMC Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year following the conclusion of the Championship.
60 Meter Dash
Junior
Cole Schlief placed 8
th in the 60-meter dash running a time of 7.89.
60 Meter Preliminaries
William Woods had two people place in the event. Freshmen
Donovan McCarthy ran a 7.66 for a 19
th place finish and freshmen
Julian Muller-Williams finished in 23
rd place running a time of 7.94
60 Meter Preliminaries Heat 1
Both McCarthy and
Blaine Sarabia finished in the top five of this event. McCarthy ran a 7.66 for a 4
th place finish while Sarabia finished in 5
th place with a time of 7.75.
60 Meter Preliminaries Heat 2
Schlief had an excellent performance, finishing in second place with a 7.31 time. Muller-Julian also finished in the top-10 running a 7.94 for the seventh place spot.
200 Meter Dash
The Owls had three people finish in the top 20. Schlief was the top runner for WWU as he was able to run a 23.44 and earn the fifth place spot. McCarthy finished in 11
th place with a time of 23.96, while
Henrique Tsugiyama trailed right behind for the 12
th place spot running the exact same time.
200 Meter Section 2
Muller-Williams was the only William Woods runner to place in the event. His 26.11 time put him at a second place finish in the event.
200 Meter Section 7
Both McCarthy and Tsugiyama finished in the top five of the event. McCarthy earned the fourth place sport with a time of 23.96, while Tsugiyama finished in fifth place running also running a 23.96.
400 Meter Finals
William Woods Schlief continued his hot streak with another second place finish. He ran a 51.04 just 1 second behind the first place finisher Alex Fritz (Columbia).
4 X 400 Relay
Towards the end of the meet, the Owls started to really pick things up. They were able to take first place in the Men's 4X400 relays with a time of 3:30.45.
Distance Medley Relay
After taking first place in the 4x400, the Owls took walked away with another first place finish in the distance medley relay with a 11:14.42 time.
High Jump
Denver Horn represented William Woods in the event. His 1.90-meter jump put him at a first place finish, giving the Owls their third straight first place event.
Long Jump
Horn also took first place in the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters.
Pole Vault
Damian Miller broke the WWU record with his fifth place, 3.83-meter jump.
