Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 6 William Woods University women's tennis team grabbed their first win of the season on Friday with an 8-1 decision over Freed-Hardeman University.

The Owls grabbed three wins in doubles play, giving them a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play. In the No. 1 doubles, Julia Perez and Paige Smith defeated their opponent, 8-4. In the No. 2 slot, Zlata Shuraeva and Ana Zavala topped their opponent, 8-3, and Kati Honigman and Gillian Henson won 8-5 in the No. 3 spot.
 
Chelsea Steward was the only Owl to sweep her opponent, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles. Karyna Sagalai in the No. 1 singles won 6-1, 6-3. In the No. 2 spot, Felicia Cesar defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 spot, Asami Terajuma won 6-3, 6-2. 
 
Kati Honigman grabbed the eighth and final win in the No. 6 spot, 8-2.
 
The Owls quickly turn around and face No. 13 Cumberland (Tenn.) Saturday at 10 a.m.
