FAYETTE, Mo. –The William Woods University men's track and field team opened the 2019 outdoor season at the CMU Open hosted by Central Methodist University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls placed 7^thout of 12 with 40 points. 
 
The Owls next compete at the WashU Invite hosted by Washington University (Mo.) on Friday, March 29.
 
 
Jumps
Denver Horn placed second in the high jump with his 1.85-meter jump, earning eight points for the Owls. The jump put him in fourth in the record book.
 
Horn placed third in the long jump, earning six more points. His 6.76-meter jump tied him for second in the record book. Cole Schlief placed seventh with a 6.58-meter jump, earning two points.
 
In the pole vault, Cole Brenneke's 3.51-meter vault put him third in the record book.
 
Throws
Tanner Pezold threw a personal best in javelin, landing him in 10^thplace. His 45.62-meter throw puts him fifth in the record book.
 
Sprints/Middle Distance
Schlief placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with an 11.68 time, earning three points for the team. He earned two more in the 200-meter dash with his seventh place, 22.99 finish time. 
 
The Owls had 10 runners compete in the 1,500-meter run. Ben Farrell led the way for the Owls, placing seventh and earning two points with his 4:13.81 time. Jackson Conner placed ninth for the Owls with a 4:14.51 final time.
 
Relays
The 4x100-meter relay team, comprised of Henrique Tsugiyama, Donovan McCarthy, Jonathan Rae, and Cole Schlief, placed fourth with a 44.80 time. They earned five points for the team.
 
Distance
Nathaniel Ogden put himself third in the record book for his 3000-meter race time. He placed fifth with a 9:15.61 final time, earning four points. Schuyler Ogden was not far behind, finishing seventh with a 9:17.11 time. He earned two points and put himself fifth in the record book.
