GREENVILLE, Ill. – The William Woods University men's track and field team placed third out of 10 at the 2019 American Midwest Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. They earned a total of 103 points.
First place finishes were named First Team All-Conference, second place finishes earned Second Team All-Conference, and third place finishes earned Third Team All-Conference.
The Owls next compete in the Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by Monmouth College on Saturday, May 4.
Relays
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of
Henrique Tsugiyama,
Donovan McCarthy, Quest Winkle, and
Cole Schlief, won the event with a 3:25.07 time.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of McCarthy, Quest Winkle,
Jonathan Rae, and Schlief, placed sixth with a 45.74 final time.
Sprints
Cole Schlief combined for 13 points through three sprinting events. He picked up a third place finish out of 27 in the 400-meter dash with a 50.73 time. He placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 22.53 time, placing him fifth in the WWU record book, and a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash finals (13.35).
Henrique Tsugiyama also competed in the 200- and 400-meter dash, combining for nine points. He placed fourth in the 400 with a 51.10 time, and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a 22.78 race time.
Hunter Carpenter placed sixth in the 800-meter run, earning three points with his 2:03.43 time.
Mid-Distance
Jackson Conner placed third out of 29 in the 1500-meter run. His 4:04.74 finish earned the team six points and placed him third in the WWU record book.
Cole Koch also competed and came in eighth with a 4:26.04 for one point.
Distance
Nathaniel Ogden placed fourth in the 5000-meter run, earning five points for the Owls with his 15:44.05 race time.
Schuyler Ogden placed seventh for two points with a 15:58.50 final time.
Ben Farrell also placed within the top 10, earning a ninth-place finish with his 16:09.00 time.
Throws
Tanner Pezold placed sixth in the hammer throw with his 34.78-meter throw, earning three points.
Jumps
Horn placed second out of seven in the high jump. His 1.88-meter jump earned the team eight points and marked him in the WWU record book.
Horn placed third in the long jump, earning six points with his 6.55-meter jump. Schlief placed fourth for five points with his 6.55-meter jump, and McCarthy placed eighth with a 6.09-meter jump for one point.
