Box Score 2 LA CROSSE, WIS. – The William Woods University Women's Volleyball team opened the 2019 Viterbo Holiday Inn Express Tournament with a 0-3 loss to No. Viterbo University (18-25, 21-25, 20-25). The Owls also lost their second match of the tournament to No.7 Northwestern College (Iowa) 3-1 (22-25, 15-25, 13-25, 12-25).

th as they face No.20 University of Jamestown at 10 a.m. They play their final match of the tournament at 4 p.m. when they take on Waldorf (Iowa).
Vs. Viterbo
William Woods opened the first set on fire. A
Kate Doerhoff kill gave them a 1-0 lead over the Hawks. They would get their second point courtesy of a
Kayton Coffee service ace.
Viterbo quickly responded to the 2-0 run by getting two quick points themselves.
The Owls would score one more time before a 3-0 Hawks run put them behind 5-3. But WWU would not trail for long as a
Hannah Kuehl kill and a
Ally Konarzewski service ace tied the game 5-5.
Both teams traded kills for before William Woods finally captured a 9-7 lead.
Down by two, Viterbo kick it into high gear and went on a 3-0 run giving them a 12-11 advantage over the Owls.
Neither team was able to hold a comfortable lead until a Hawks kills put them up 21-17.
William Woods scored one more time before finally falling 25-18 in the first set.
With momentum on their side, the Hawk got out to an early 12-8 lead in the second set. They would continue to hold on to their lead until a reception error gave the Owls their 20
th point of the game and their first lead.
Viterbo did not like the idea of being behind and went on a 5-0 run putting them ahead 24-20. A service error would give the out the Owls down three, but a service error on their cost them as the Hawks won the set 25-21.
The Hawks dominated early in the final set of the contest. They got out to a 15-5 lead over William Woods.
The Owls were able to get back within four of Viterbo but would ultimately lose the set 25-20.
Viterbo won the contest 3-0.
Vs. Northwestern
William Woods continued to struggle in their second match of the tournament. Losing the first set 22-25 and the second 11-25 things were not clicking.
All of that changed in the third set of the match. After rallying back and four with the Red Raiders, William Woods finally gained a 10-7 lead on a Coffee service ace.
They went on to push their lead out to 12-8 when
Remie Johnson found Kuehl for a kill. Moments later,
Tori Rosemann captured a service ace of her own giving them a five-point advantage over Northwestern.
The Red Raiders responded to the Owls run with a Wacker kill, but it would not be enough to slow WWU down as they went on a 5-0 run putting them ahead 18-9.
Northwestern attempted to make a comeback but could not stop the offensive pressure from William Woods.
The Owls would go on to win the match 13-25.
Northwestern returned the favor in the next set defeating WWU 12-25. The Red Raiders would win the match 3-1.
