Box Score 2 LA CROSSE, WIS. – William Woods University finished the Viterbo Holiday Inn Express Tournament 0-4. They lost their final two matches to No. 20 University of Jamestown (16-25, 16-25, 19-25) and their final match of the tournament to Waldorf (Iowa) (26-24, 32-30, 25-18, 20-25).
They return to action Wednesday Sept. 11
th as they head to Canton, Mo. To face Culver-Stockton College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Game One
WWU struggled early in the match against the Jimmies. As they fell behind 7-20 in the first set.
They would continue to fight, but would ultimately lost the first set 16-25.
With a one set lead, University of Jamestown continued to apply the pressure. An Isabel Wedell service ace would give them 9-15 advantage. She would go on and commit three more aces and push their lead to 10-18.
The Owls were able to get within, six of the Jimmies, but it would not be enough as they would lose the second set 16-25.
With two sets behind them, the University of Jamestown needed to capitalize in the third game. They did just that as they were able to get out to an early 0-3 lead.
William Woods finally found a spark and was able to gain a 4-3 lead over UJ. Their lead was short lived as they Jimmies tied the match up 4-4.
WWU refused to stay tied with UJ as a
Tori Rosemann kill put them ahead 5-4. Moments later,
Nise Salima showed her aggressiveness with a kill of her own pushing their lead to 6-4.
The Owls remained ahead one more kill before the University of Jamestown offense attacked.
WWU continued to fight but could not slow down the UJ offense.
The University of Jamestown went on to win the contest 0-3.
Game Two
The final game of the tournament was one of these Owls best game. In the first set against Waldorf, WWU played very aggressive.
After falling behind 1-7, Salima and
Hannah Kuehl were there to block Kelsey Sederquest's attack and give them their second point of the set.
Trailing majority of the game, Remi Johnson was able to find
Kate Doerhoff for a kill and tie the game 23-23.
Both teams continued trading kills, but Waldorf eventually took the set 24-26.
The second set would go to the wire as well, but Waldorf when win 30-32.
Down two sets, William Woods kicked into high gear in the third.
Midway through the set, they found themselves ahead 18-17. Johnson would find Salima for a kill and push their lead to 19-17.
They would remain ahead the remainder of the set.
WWU went on to win the set 25-18.
After dropping one set to the Owls, Waldorf knew they needed to end the match in the fourth set.
They did just that, Ahead 23-20, they would score two more points giving them a 20-25 victory.
Waldorf went on to win the match 3-1.
