MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 11 William Woods University women's tennis team is set to compete for the fifth time at the NAIA National Championship on Tuesday, May 18. The Owls will face Southwestern College (Kan.) in the opening round.
The two teams will face off at 8:30 a.m.in the Mobile Tennis Center. Southwestern was not ranked in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll but earned the automatic bid as they were the KCAC Tournament Champion.
FULL SCHEDULE
The Owls earned their fifth trip to Nationals after earning the automatic bid as the Heart of America/American Midwest Conference/Sooner tournament champion for the fifth consecutive year. The Owls went 14-5 on the season.
Competing at No. 1 spot in singles, senior
Zlata Shuraeva went 10-3 on the season. She is currently ranked 36 in the Oracle/ITA NAIA National Singles Rankings. She is also ranked No. 1 in the Central Region Singles.
Senior
Ana Zavala competed at the No. 2 spot, and went 11-3 on the season. She is currently ranked 37 in the Oracle/ITA NAIA National Singles Rankings. She is also ranked No. 2 in the Central Region Singles.
Rukshika Wijesooriya alternated in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. She went 5-2 at No. 3 spot and 6-1 at No. 4 spot. She is currently ranked No. 7 in the Central Region Singles.
Freshman
Marta Calvo Larraz alternated in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. She went 7-2 at No. 3, and 2-1 at No. 4 spot. She is currently ranked No. 11 in the Central Region Singles.
Senior
Mireia Jordan alternated between the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. She went 4-1 at No. 4 and 5-3 at No. 5 spot. She is currently ranked No. 20 in the Central Region Singles.
Senior
Ariadna Jordan alternated in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. She went 3-1 at No. 5 and 6-1 at No. 6 spot.
In doubles, Shuraeva and Zavala paired up at No. 1 and went 13-4 on the season. They are currently ranked 15 in the Oracle/ITA NAIA National Doubles Rankings. They are also ranked No. 1 in the Central Region Doubles.
Competing at No. 2 spot, Jordan and Wijesooriya went 3-0 on the season.
Hannah Meyer and Jordan competed at No. 3 spot. They went 4-2 on the season.
