Fletcher Resigns From WWU Baseball

FULTON, Mo. – Chris Fletcher has resigned as the William Woods University head baseball coach, effective August 17.

"I want to thank Jason for allowing me to lead our baseball program," stated Fletcher. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at William Woods either as a student-athlete or a coach. There are tremendous people here at WWU, and I will most certainly miss that, but most importantly I'll miss the players. They are the heart and soul of why this place is amazing, and I'm forever grateful for our time together. I'll always be an OWL!!"

Fletcher served two seasons as the head of the baseball program. During his time, he accumulated 35 wins with a 35-26 record. He coached five All-Conference players and had 20 players earn Academic All-AMC honors. His first season at the helm was cut short due to COVID.

Fletcher served as the assistant coach for three seasons prior to being named head coach. He also served as the graduate assistant from 2012-2014 following his two-year playing career with the Owls.

"While I'm disappointed we are losing Chris, I am very excited for the opportunity he's been presented with," stated Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jason Vittone. "It's not every day you get a chance to build a program from scratch in your hometown. Chris did an exceptional job for us, and we will miss having him in our department."

A search for his replacement has begun.
