KINGSPORT, Tenn. – William Woods opened up their elimination game against Louisiana State University-Alexandria, where a late offensive surge from both squads would make it an interesting game late.
LSUA would get the scoring started early in the bottom of the first with two runs, with some errors from the Owls. Woods would respond in the top of the third with a single from
Colby Caton to score
Cam Casso to make it a one-run game after the third.
After the first,
Brayden Groseclose would settle in for the Owls, tossing 6.1 innings while striking out 5 and only allowing 2 more runs in the process, giving the Owls a chance to get their first lead of the tournament.
The Owls' offense would struggle through most of the game, leaving 9 runners on base at one point during the game. The Generals would use this in the bottom of the seventh to add on another four runs to their lead after a grand slam from the three-hole hitter.
The run drought would break for the Owls at the top of the ninth as they would load the bases with nobody out down 7-1 and start cashing in with a single from
Kaden Kinsler and a single from Jared Bendfield to make it a 7-3 game.
Sam Russo would keep the rally alive with a base hit down the left field line,
Cam Casso, and extend the inning with two outs in the game.
Despite their late-inning efforts on the offensive end, the Owls would heartbreakingly fall to LSUA, wrapping up their 2026 season.
The Owls will look to return in their second season in the heart and build off the momentum they ended their year with this year.
