KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The #5-seeded William Woods Owls opened the first round of the NAIA Baseball national championship with a 5-0 loss to #4-seeded Indiana Wesleyan in the late innings.
AJ Vasquez would get the nod for the first game and would turn in a gem of a start, tossing 7.1 innings while striking out 6 and only walking one. The Wildcats would get to Vasquez in the bottom of the eighth for 3 runs and to go up 4-0 over the Owls late.
Indiana Wesleyan starter would match Vasquez the whole way, keep the Owls hitters off balance as they struggled to get any offense going.
Despite some traffic in the middle innings of the game, no runs were able to cross the plate for the Owls.
Kaden Kinsler would turn in a multi-hit day as
Cam Casso,
Colby Caton, and
Grant O'Haver each recorded a hit for the Owls.
With the Owls falling 5-0, they are now set to face LSU-Alexandria tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. ET in their elimination game to keep their playoff hopes alive.
