Owls Topped By RV Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team was topped by RV Columbia College Saturday afternoon as the Owls began their second stretch of conference games. The 62-43 loss drops the Owls to 6-15 on the season with a 3-8 record in the AMC.
 
The Owls return home for the next two games, starting with a Thursday evening game versus Harris-Stowe State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
12 – Kasey Hazell scored a team-high 12 points while going 5-for-8 from the field.
9 – Sydney Booker added nine points to the board (3-5 FG, 3-4 FT).
7 – Sydney Booker pulled down a team-high nine rebounds with all coming from the defensive end.
4 ­– Jheda Kennedy recorded a team-high four assists.
 
Game Highlights
CC came out with a dominating 21-7 first quarter performance, holding the Owls scoreless through the final 4:29 of play.
 
The Owls outscored CC 14-10 in the second quarter. A 6-0 run to start the quarter with four points from Kasey Hazell and two from Taneigh Boyd cut the game to eight just under three minutes in, 21-13. A three from Katie Keilholz again brought the game within eight with 1:34 on the clock, but CC scored the final points of the half to hold a 10-point lead at halftime, 31-21.
 
A layup from Hazell early in the second half brought the Owls within eight yet again, but CC pushed their lead to 13. A layup from Boyd followed by two free throws from Sydney Booker cut the game to nine with 6:12 on the clock, 36-27. CC responded with a 9-0 run to take an 18-point lead with 3:03 to play, 45-27. A three-point play from Boyd halted their run, and CC held a 17-point lead heading into the final quarter, 51-34.
 
CC pushed their lead to 21 to start the fourth quarter, but back-to-back points from Booker and Hazell cut the game to 17 with 6:21 to play, 55-38.  The two teams traded buckets throughout the rest of the game, and Booker hit the final points of the game just before the buzzer to end with a 19-point loss, 62-43.
