Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Doubles Champions at ITA

Calvo Larraz and Lindebom Win Doubles, Lindeboom Singles Runner Up at ITA Central-West Regionals

WICHITA, Kan. – Sophomore Hanna Lindeboom and Junior Marta Calvo Larraz of the William Woods University women’s tennis team are the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central-West Regional Doubles Champions. Lindeboom also took second-place in singles.

Singles Competition:

No. 2 seed, Hanna Lindeboom was the runner up. In the first four rounds, she did not have much trouble at all to advance as she defeated Kailyn Groski 6-0, 6-0, then Tara Stewart 6-0, 6-1, then teammate Lilla Komiszar 6-0, 6-2, and then #7 Kristina Khmelevskaia 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, she defeated #6 Mariana Molano Canon 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 and then fell short to #9 Daniela Herrera 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

No. 5 seed, Lena Greefs lost in the third-round. In the first-round, she quickly won without losing any game with a double 6-0 to Madison Dobson followed by a double 6-2 in the second-round against Carla Arce. In the quarterfinals, Greefs dropped a heartbreaker to teammate #12 Marta Calvo Larraz 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

No. 12 seed, Marta Calvo Larraz lost in the semifinals. She defeated Piper Marquez 6-4, 6-2, in the first round followed by a 7-6, 7-6 win in the second-round over Paula Cepa. In the third-round, she defeated teammate #5 Lena Greefs 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 and then in the quarterfinals, she took a 6-4, 7-5 victory over #4 Camila Sanchez. In the semifinals, she fell to the champion #9 Daniela Herrera 6-2, 7-6.

No. 16 seed, Zara Littlejohn lost in the second-round. In the first-round, she defeated Camilla Castro Medina in a three-setter 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 and then fell to Ivett Castaneda 6-4, 6-2.

Eline Drent fell in the second-round. She defeated Patty Huerta 6-1, 6-2 in the first-round but fell 6-4, 6-3 to #13 Jasmin Hauska in the second-round.

Lilla Komiszar fell in the third-round. In the first-round, she quickly defeated Eliza Camp without losing any game 6-0, 6-0 and then grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Cori Campbell. In the third-round, she fell to teammate #2 Hanna Lindeboom 6-0, 6-2.

 

Doubles Competition:

No. 1 seed, Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Larraz were the champions. They defeated Ciarra McWilliams and Cambrie Frame 8-1 in the first round, followed by an 8-3 victory in the second-round over Paula Cepa and Carla Arce. In the third-round, they grabbed an 8-5 win over Mariana Ochoa and Catherine Coe. In the semifinals, they defeated Kendra Maples and Grace Maxey 8-3 followed by a 7-6, 6-2 victory in the finals over #3 Thamara Pinto and Micaelli Magday.

No. 2 seed, Eline Drent and Lena Greefs lost in the quarterfinals. They defeated Vanessa Hofer and Madison Dobson 8-2 in the first-round followed by an 8-1 victory over Renee Acena and Carolyna Truond, in the second-round. In the quarterfinals, they fell short to #7 Daniela Herrera and Fatima Nemi.

No. 4 seed, Lilla Komiszar and Zara Littlejohn fell in the second-round. They defeated Jazzmyn Williams and Hanna Wood 8-2 in the first-round but fell to Jasmin Hauska and Grace Robert in the second round, 8-4.

Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Larraz will head to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia on October 13-16. Competition will take place at the Rome Tennis Center.
