Owls Fall to Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The William Woods University women's basketball team fell to Baker University Tuesday evening, 67-59.

How It Happened

Natalie Thomas started off the game with a three just six seconds in. The lead bounced back-and-forth five times over the next four minutes, but a three by Baker put the Wildcats up by four, 12-8. A three from Katie Keilholz with 2:41 on the clock cut the Owls deficit to one, but Baker closed out the quarter with a 17-15 lead.
 
A Macie Edwards layup kicked off the second quarter, evening the score at 17, all, and a layup from Ruthie Brown and a jumper from Thomas gave the Owls a four-point lead just two minutes in, 21-17. Baker cut the game to one with under four minutes to play, but the Owls closed out the half with a 6-0 run to outscore Baker 19-10 in the second quarter and hold a seven-point lead at halftime, 34-27.
 
A three from Jersee Wren with five minutes on the clock gave the Owls a 10-point lead, 39-29. Baker ended the half with a 13-2 run in the final four minutes to take a one-point lead heading into the final quarter, 46-45.
 
Baker quickly took up a five-point lead, but a layup from Sydney Booker followed by a three from Keilholz evened the score at 50-50 with 8:02 to play. Baker answered with a 9-2 run to take a seven-point lead with 2:29 remaining in the game, 59-52. The Owls were unable to cut the game back down, ending with a 67-59 loss.
