Owls Unable to Top MBU

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team fell to Missouri Baptist University Thursday evening, 64-59. The Owls fall to 9-10 on the season with a 3-6 conference mark. Darius Yohe broke the WWU career rebounds record.
 
 

The Owls travel to University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Thursday, Jan. 26, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
 
 

40 – The Owls scored 40 of their points in the paint.
21 – Fred Robinson scored a career-high 21 points to lead the floor, hitting seven jumpers and going 7-8 from the foul line. He scored 16 in the second half alone.
16 – Nathan Schwartze added 16 points to the board (6-14 FG, 3-3 FT).
13 – Darius Yohe pulled down a floor-high 13 boards, breaking the career record. The team recorded 13 total blocks (second most in program history).
11 – Jared Crutcher pulled down 11 boards with eight coming from the defensive end.
8 – Darius Yohe recorded eight blocks, again putting his name in the record book.
1 – The Owls were able to only hit one three-pointer.
 
 

After a back-and-forth beginning to the game, back-to-back jumpers from Nathan Schwartze in the paint gave the Owls a five-point lead, 12-7.
 
The Owls maintained at least a one-possession lead, but MBU finished the last 6:33 of the first half with a 13-3 run to take a six-point lead at halftime, 29-23.
 
A 7-2 Owls' run kicked off the second half, cutting the game to one less than three minutes in, 31-30.
 
A fast break layup from Fred Robinson cut the game to two with 6:31 on the clock after MBU had pushed back a nine-point lead earlier in the half, 44-42.
 
A traditional three-point play from Schwartze followed by two good free throws evened the score at 49 all with 4:44 on the clock.
 
MBU pushed their lead back to six, but a layup from Fred Robinson and two free throws from him on the next play brought the Owls back within one with 1:29 on the clock, 56-55.
 
MBU again pushed the lead back to five, and despite the Owls attempts, they were unable to grab the win, 64-59.
