Owls Fall Short to HSSU, Crutcher Records Double-Double

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team fell short to Harris-Stowe State University Thursday evening, 61-56.  They fall to 8-7 on the season with a 2-3 conference mark.
 
Jared Crutcher recorded his second double-double of the season, and Darius Yohe put his named second in the record book again for blocks.

The Owls travel to Columbia College on Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

14 – Jared Crutcher and Grant Peters led the Owls' scoring efforts with 14 points each.
12 – Jared Crutcher finished his double-double performance with 12 rebounds.
10 – Darius Yohe pulled down 10 boards, and Fred Robinson scored 10 points.
8 – Darius Yohe again tied for second in the WWU record book with eight blocks.

A back-and-forth beginning leaned toward HSSU after a few plays, but back-to-back jumpers from Grant Peters and two good free throws put the Owls up by three with 11 minutes to play, 13-10.
 
A dunk and and-one from Fred Robinson put the Owls back in the lead with 8:31 to play, and the Owls extended the lead to five with back-to-back hook shots from Jared Crutcher, 30-25.
 
HSSU closed out the half with a 6-0 run in the final two minutes to send the Owls into halftime with a two-point deficit, 35-33.
 
A traditional three-point play from Peters evened the score at 42 all with 13 minutes to go, but HSSU pulled back ahead.
 
Just over three minutes later, Peters went 2-for-2 from the foul line to give the Owls their first lead of the half, 45-44.
 
HSSU scored the next five on two free throws and a three. They extended their lead to seven points with four minutes to play, 55-48.
 
An 8-2 Owls' run cut to the game one point with 47 seconds on the clock, but the Owls were unable to score again while HSSU put up four more, 61-56.
