Strong Second Half, Thomas' Double-Double Gives Owls' Win

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team used a dominate second half and a double-double performance from Natalie Thomas to kick off the new year with a 56-47 win over Harris-Stowe State University. The Owls outscored the Hornets 33-23 in the second half to move to 4-9 on the season with a 2-4 conference mark.

The Owls travel to Columbia College on Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 1 p.m. tip-off.

Halfway through the first quarter, the two teams sat tied at 6-6 following a Macie Edwards' in-the-paint jumper. A 5-0 HSSU run put the Owls down by five. Natalie Thomas scored the final points of the quarter to bring the game to 15-11, HSSU.
 
The Owls ended the second half of the second quarter with an 11-0 run to cut their deficit to one heading into halftime, 24-23. For the first part of the second, they trailed by 13 while having over a five-minute dry spell.
 
A jumper from Sydney Booker kicked off the second half, giving the Owls their first lead of the game since two minutes in. HSSU went back in the lead and held it until two free throws from Natalie Thomas with 3:49 on the clock evened the score, 35-35. Thomas scored the next four, and Katie Keilholz finished out the Owls' 10-0 run to take a six-point lead, 41-35.
 
The Owls blasted a 12-1 run in the first five minutes of the final quarter to pull a 14-point lead, 56-42. HSSU cut the game back to single digits by the end of the game with a 5-0 run, 56-47.
